Well, the first thing that was supposedly a 'space plane' would never fly like a real one. I will however, put you down as the first person to land a spaceplane on Minmus because of the Ibis craft you posted.

First? I did it way before him, and posted in his thread too! In case you missed it:

Since the earlier guy failed, I guess I\'ll have to claim the spot for first spaceplane landing on Minmas!

I\'m going to be away over the weekend, so don\'t expect a 'first spaceplane return from Minmas to land on the KSC runway' until monday.

And also, when I said 'the earlier guy failed', I meant this guy:

Mind adding an achievement for putting a shuttle on Minmus?

I\'m almost done :D

edit: NEW PIC

Pictures of landing and return coming as soon as I actually do them >_>

EDIT: Never mind, it crashed when I tried to land. Apparently landing gear don\'t like to land with a horizontal speed of 100 m/s

That is why I made the distinction between \'Spaceplane\' and \'Heavy Spaceplane\'. I did not get the first spaceplane to Minmus, Trbinsc holds that title. But I have landed the largest spaceplane on Minmus. Given its cockpit type [Mk3], and that the majority of its fuselage is made of Mk3 parts, I say its the first \'heavy\' spaceplane to land on Minmus.

YES! I\'m the first person to land on Minmus in a spaceplane, and then do a glide return onto the KSC runway (as fas as I know)! I feel so happy right now! It\'s pretty remarkable to think that the craft traveled millions of kilometers, and then landed within walking distance of its starting point.

Edit:

I\'d say that landing a spaceplane on an airless planetary body only counts if you bring it back and glide back to KSC. Otherwise, there isn\'t much point in sticking wings on it.

Oh wow, that timing was perfect.

The Ibis is theoretically capable of doing so. However, whilst moving my old .craft files into the new VVAB Ships folder, I told it to copy and replace. This meant that I lost the new Ibis model because the old one replaced it.

I have since rebuilt the Ibis X-class. However, the orbital ascent stage is difficult to handle, when it previously wasn\'t.

Nevertheless, I will soon be attempting an Ibis X Minmus return with glide, and hopefully to KSC if I have fuel. I probably won\'t be landing on the runway for two reasons. One, I find it difficult to land on it with much better handling aircraft. Two, the Ibis does not like atmospheric flight without ASAS. Once I\'m locked on during reentry, that\'s pretty much the last say I have in things until it\'s time to pull up for glide landing, or engage engines for a powered one.

How does that make sense? I can understand testers being unable to participate with things that were done before the official update, but everything I have done was after the update. Can you put up a more specific poll, because I don\'t think people understood that.

What\'s not to get? It\'s a simple answer, there was even a smaller argument concerning the topic as well. Even the testers didn\'t agree to being able to do it, considering that they had more time to learn and practice getting to and landing on Minmus. This wasn\'t my decision Trbinsc, it was the community\'s. And the community has voted.

I just remembered something. Just before release, the gravity on Minmus was doubled to make it faster to orbit around. Wouldn\'t this mean that any familiarity we had with Minmus\'s gravity would be basically worthless, or in fact, make it harder to land due to our underestimation of the gravity? Also, since we had a couple days of 'practice time', wouldn\'t you expect to have the achievements dominated by testers, even though this is clearly not the case. It just doesn\'t make sense for me. I really think that the voters have not been educated about what they are voting about.
