I guess I'd question the assumption that new players are intended to be Mun-capable in the demo. After all, it's supposed to be giving them a taste of the game, not the whole game. 13 hours ago, GregroxMun said: My proposal for parts: All the current demo parts plus... Rockomax "Thumper" SRB. The 1.0 new aerodynamics but no fairings?) 1.25m Heatshield Telus Mobility Enhancer (short yellow ladder) Telus-LV Bay Mobility Enhancer (long ladder) SP-W 2x3 and SP-L 1x6 Solar Panels (The small-ish solar panels with the retractable case) REMOVE OX-4W 2x3 and OX-4L 1x6 Solar Panels (The small-ish, non-retractable solar panels) Mk1 Crew Cabin 1.25m Service Bay All FL-T (1.25m) Fuel Tanks. FL-R1 RCS Fuel Tank (0.625m Fuel Tank) FL-R25 RCS Fuel Tank (1.25m Fuel Tank) MAYBE LY-10 Small Landing Gear (The little airplane wheels. Why add these? Rovers and makeshift planes. Just enough to make new players want more.) Please don't take this as criticism of you, but after doing some simplistic playtesting last night, I don't think any of those parts should be added to the demo. Some of them are unnecessary because the possible mission scope is reduced (you don't need ladders, fairings, or heat shields for Mun or Minmus, and RCS is only really essential for docking). Some of them are specialized tools that handle cases that don't come up in the demo (if you're building something big and complicated enough to need Sepratrons, you're attempting full-game rockets in demo mode). Some of them are redundant with parts that are in the demo in ways that would present too many choices to someone who doesn't know what any of them do (the game balance interplay between T30/T45/909 is great, but if you want to make someone's very first trip to the VAB fun, it's better to make it clear that "this is the engine you should be using now," so they can get to launch quicker instead of spending minutes trying to parse the part descriptions. Same goes for the lander can, winglets, and maybe LFO tanks). Maybe career is a lot worse, but I found the part selection in sandbox to be pretty decent for a basic intro. I also noticed that the current demo has an amazingly quick load time. The tiny part selection has got to be a factor there, and it helps the demo to make a better first impression. Most demos last an hour This ^^, on it's own, says a lot about the fun to be had. I've not looked at the 1.0 demo, but bought the full game after seeing the potential in the 0.18.3 demo. sevenperforce
I was frustrated with the lack of rovers in the Demo, so I built one from scratch. It only has one axle. Does not play well with others. Once I got the hang of throttling each engine individually, though, I could turn and navigate fairly well. It did have a tendency to dance...and go boom. But if at first you detonate, try try again. He's still out there, trundling into the wilderness....

Squad should scrap the idea of a demo alltogether. While this is no AAA game, its got a MASSIVE following on Youtube, and Steam, Reddit, ect. Squad doesnt need the demo OR spend massive amounts of money in marketing just to make sales. The people who have already bought the game are saying "Yes, Buy this game, it is worth it" (more so back when I bought it in .18 than now, but still). Right now there are over 27K reviews on steam. 26K of them are positive (wow... words fail me), 626 are negative, and of those, they are expecting AAA quality (from a team who don't have the funds/manpower to do so), Do not understand that many bugs are in the process of being worked on, Do not understand physics, Is not their cup of tea. And some of those negative reviews still give praise to the game as a whole but something kills it for them. The Meta Critic score is pretty good too, 88. The reaction I'm getting from the demo (havn't played the new one) just makes it feel... underwhelming compared to the actual game, and its got enough of a following on Youtube so that anyone curious as what the game ACTUALLY looks like and what can be done with it (both stock and modded) put the demo to shame. I say retire the demo as I'm afraid this is a case of lost sales due to a demo. I mean I think it would be nice... but it simply fails as an actual representation of the game. I agree with all of this.

Here's my attempt, btw, before I launched it, I tested it out on the KSC, and it worked really well
