Food and Oxygen?....

Recommended Posts

I had a quick search but couldn't find anything incredibly relevant.

I did find some good 3 word stories though... ?

Are there any plans to introduce a form of "Hunger" and "asphyxiation" into the game?

Preferably as a Toggle Option in difficulty....

Id say "Food" and "Oxygen" but who the hell knows what a Kerbal eats, or breaths!?

I just feel that as my abilities in the game increase Id like to start another Career Mode Game and make it more.... er... well.. More!. You know?.

Oh, and as a gauge of my expertise and knowledge in the game Im coming upto my 6 day mark....

So Yea...

I R Noob.

from the most recent Redit KSP AMA:

"Are you 100% sure that KSP never ever gets some kind of life support? Not even the version thats developed by roverdude right now?"

(Maxmaps)

We're not 100% sure on that anymore, we've been listening and we can't say anything for sure, but it's certainly back on the table.

There is TAC life support, if you want it as a mod.

I suppose one of the big hurdles for that is all the animations and stuff that need to be made to communicate that someone is asphyxiating or starving. For example, what does it look like when a Kerbal starves to death during an EVA?

How about nice big crosses for eyes and a sad face with their tongue sticking out? :D

I rather be more interested in Kerbal reproduction and children. Gonna send Jeb and Valentina on a long trip to populate Duna. Want colonists, then make them ;)

 You're going to need a lot more than two kerbals to have any kind of reasonable gene pool... even aside from the obvious "family friendly" issues that brings up :D

Gene pool?.

All the Kerbals look the same as it is. I think their Gene pool is already pretty shallow. lol.

But that does raise some interesting questions.. and who knows.

If KSP keeps going and we support it and help it grow... Maybe one day, in the future, they will introduce the Kerbal equiv of a Stork?.

Well, you could apply the same logic to a decent variety of animals - quite a few species more or less all look the same to us. Most of those don't have limited gene pools, they just happen to look like that :P. Obviously with Kerbals they do look the same because they all use the same models, but saying that the models/textures aren't super detailed :D.

I'd always wondered how Jeb fit into his space suit with balls the size of the Mun.

You can check the "Planned Features" part of the KSP wiki. I know that there are at least 3 life support (LS) mods out there. TAC-LS being the most popular. RoverDude (creator of MKS/OKS and Karbonite) has created his own LS mod as well. I've never used any LS mods before so I wouldn't be much of a help concerning any more about them.

I imagine, for the sake of playability, that if they add life support... it'll take the form of the Snacks! mod or USI's new life support mod.

In both cases, life support is basically reduced to a single resource that can be produced in-situ (for considerable effort and cost) to extend viable mission lengths.

Also, in both cases, running out of life support resources is non-fatal... it just isn't particularly good either. In the case of USI's life support, if you run out of "supplies" for more than 15 days, most kerbals will refuse to do anything remotely useful other than complain. In the case of Snacks!, you take a hit to your rep... after all... who sends kerbals to delicious-looking planets without any snacks?

Both provide an excellent way (IMO) to add the consideration for supplies to be consumed over longer time periods without adding complexity that doesn't add to the game in any significant way. I used TACLS for the longest time, but I use USI-LS now. From a gameplay perspective they are virtually identical. TACLS offers water, oxygen, and food... but they come in containers that automatically portion them out in such a way that all three run out simultaneously... so all you end up really caring about it "how many days to I have right now". The two mods I mentioned above add that same functionality with less complexity. The only thing unique to TACLS is that you can recycle water, recycle air, produce water/oxygen from LFO, etc... such that you could in theory carry less of one or another by extending those that you can re-use with more devices and more power... but even that in the end simply ends up being a method to "give you more days".

For a fictional species in a fictional universe... I think it's safe to speculate about what they may or may not need for survival. I feel like the Snacks! mod is more "kerbal", but since I use USI-everything... I may as well use their life support also.

EDIT: If there were to be a stock life-support... I'd like it to be most like Snacks! in its implementation, but most like USI-LS in its consequences for running out. IE: No Snack = No Work... aka will work for snacks!
