Please quit necro-posting!!!

Seriously, in the last month the amount of Necroposts has gotten redicuous. "Necroposting" is when a user post on a thread that is "dead". This is against the forums rules as per 2.2. So I've devised this for players to refer to before posting on a thread.

If the thread has not gotten a post after 2 months- please do NOT respond! The thread is DEAD. Leave it ALONE and DO NOT post unless the thread owner has done so within 2 days prior.

If you used the forum's built in search feature and or altered the order of listing on the forums then please, find the last post on that thread and see if it a abides by the forementioned rule.

If you feel the thread should be "revived" or brought back- then please ask the thread owner BEFORE posting! If the thread isn't worth doing this then it isn't worth reviving!

If the thread says its "closed" by the thread owner, but isn't locked then please listen to the owner and DO NOT post on that thread!!

If your trying to solve someone's technical problem with KSP prior to 2015, ignore the thread and do not respond. The problem they had is more than likely solved by the time you find it. There is nothing more annoying than reading someone's comment from 1.0 to a person who was playing in .18.

If your posting on a thread of a mod for KSP, then please check if the thread has been moved!!! Mods can change hands and or be moved to new threads for various reasons. So we ask that you understand this and do NOT post on the original thread.

I hope you find this enlightening. I will be adding to it as time goes on and if you have problems with it let me know. This is just my PSA for the day.

What Starwhip said. The Moderation staff does a lovely job of locking up necros all over, and the report button is, as they remind us constantly, the best tool to fight it rather than complain or warn about it.

EDIT: Aw, you ninja, Sal!

These threads are a lot more annoying than necroing is.

I can't honestly believe you sit at your desk and go 'OH GOD SOMEONE REPLIED TO AN OLD THREAD, HOW WILL I COPE!?'

Whenever someone posts in an old thread people complain about necro posting.

Whenever someone starts a new thread on a topic people complain that there is old threads with that topic.... which you can't post on as its a necro.

I've sat back and not spoken about how bad Necroposting has gotten- but a this point it's like people don't even bother to read the forum rules

I've reported them silently- the issue has always been delt with but at this point it's beyond their control as its a blatant disregard for the rules.

I'm curious as to where people even find threads to necro...

I'm guessing that they search for a thread, then post in it before they check the last post date. Or maybe they do it on purpose, just to tick people off.

Well that's why I made this thread- I want people to see what I said in the op just like the forums rules. It will keep people from being troublesome and leading to additional work for the mods! They've got enough to worry about already without Necroposts also being an issue!

Some topics are timeless and haven't lost relevance since the original post. I think it's odd to dissuade people from bothering to use the search function.

I don't mind the search function- just check the date of the last post. Use good judgement

Can't we add a notice next to the quick reply menu for replies that are older than 60 days?

Ooo, I like that idea! It adds a little warning popup when you try to reply to that thread so that members know when a thread is outdated.

Mods, admins, can this be done?
