Tourist XP

What is the story with tourists and XP? Does it actually do anything? Can you get repeat customers? I haven't had any.

It's rather goofy. "Gwenchelle Kerman has advanced to level 1!" Level 1 of what? She's a Level 1 Tourist? Does that mean she gets new special Tourist-related abilities?

So far, I've just thought this was a funny quirk, but I'm curious if it has any actual game effects or whathaveyou. Perhaps someone with more knowledge or experience can shed some light on this.

I've seen none. I kinda wish that 50% or 10% or whatever of tourists join the space program and bring their XP along with them. Alas, I've yet to see one.

Tourist experience is just a side effect, since they are essentially Kerbonauts without any abilities.

They are in the Kerbonaut roster until the contract is complete, and basically get the same XP as any other crew member.

Not too elegant, but propably necessary in the way they are handled at the moment.

I figured as much. I also figure it won't be long until someone makes a mod so that tourist xp might actually be relevant and not merely an odd side-effect.

Depending on how well you performed during the mission, how brave and/or stupid they are...

When your tourist reach level 3 their baggage fees are waived.

If you run some commitments like 60% reputation -> science, those tourist can actually finance your entire space program.
