Fastest single jet engine under 25.000 meters 1.0.3.

Recommended Posts

Mission:

-Build a plane with a single jet engine (J33-TurboJet-Rapier).

-Put a *notsostupid* Kerbal (or 2) in it.

-Take off from the runway.

-Go as fast as you can, but stay under 25.000 meters.

-Don't explode, don't lose any parts.

-Return to the runway and land safe (close to the runway is also ok).

-Prove you did this by screenshots (F3)

-No mods, no overclipping !

*I will only use info displayed on F3 screen !

Reward:

-Good feeling :)

-A batch if someone will design them.

Sounds like fun. Here's my shot with a whiplash.

Managed to capture my highest in-game speed (1495.5) I think I hit it in both directions but didn't manage to screen cap it on the eastbound pass. For whatever reason, mission summary shows 10 m/s lower.

Your score is safe for now ExaltedDuck. The fastest I could get my aircraft up too was 1460.6 m/s ;.;

I botched the landing in the video of my fastest attempt. This video shows a different attempt. I max out at 1455 m/s, but you can see take off, a couple high speed trials, and a landing.

Aircraft Specs:

name: swift

parts: 13

mass: 6.6 t

length: 10.0 m

wingspan: 4.9 m

triop, just FYI, the "highest speed over land" IS accurate. the reason it is different from highest shown surface speed is because surface velocity also takes into account vertical speed, not just horiz. speed.

I know, I meant to say that, It's just my poor English...Thanks.

The Hornet: hypersonic in a 30 degree climb.

screenshot50.png

1405m/s and still increasing at 16.6km.

screenshot51.png

15.7km and 1410m/s.

screenshot52.png

-15 degree dive and 1415m/s.

Took this:

And this happened:

Brave Valentina, said she would try and ride it all the way in (does that sound dodgy to anyone else??), alas the water is a lot harder than it looks.

The grave marker buoy will be deployed right at the impact site - precisely ten miles away from the KSC runway.

problem is you can't get much above 1400m/s without stock wings exploding. What went on my jet wasn't the wings (Firespitter), it was the jet engine - straight and level, undocumented but take my word I was doing 1445 level at 14km, when it went it broke the tailplane sending that into the wings. If I'd had say the FS ramjet (faster spool-up, better gimbal for pitch authority and slightly less thrust than the stock turbojet) fitted, that wouldn't have happened.

(BTW the shock cone intake is useless for this challenge. It likes to explode a LOT).

And this happened:

my advice for next time: lockwashers, double nuts, and whole lot of loc tite. ;p

too fast, too low. If I dived sharp enough to avoid seeing a heating gauge, I might as well have been hitng the ground at around 16000m. No warning. just boom.

This just gave me an idea for a new mkII design. >=]

And thanks, triop. This is a fun and intriguing challenge.

Brake before I might blow up.

ztwTos1.png

My longest U-turn ever !

Long way back...No more electric charge, plane flies like :sealed:

FCoLFQm.png

Almost home...

After that it was BOOM !

I needs to works on me landingz

Better luck next time.

well I can say without a doubt that a single rapier is capable of at least 1746. But a plane with low enough drag to get there can be a real bear to land.

1746 m/s single rapier ?

Can you do that ? I love to see it.

1746, gives me hope . . .
