How to: Get a Kerbal out of an AR-202....

Recommended Posts

Yes, seriously. I just took my first orbital rescue mission post 1.0 and here's what I found when I pulled up next to the stranded ship.

Note the portrait (I have my own mod installed that adds IVAs to crewable parts without an IVA already - or it's supposed to, either my conditional in MM is bad or somehow the AR-202 got a crew capacity...)

At any rate, I thought it was odd enough to post and hoped someone would have a suggestion (I tried "EVA" and I get a message that the part has no hatch :( )

Just checked and yep, the AR-202 has a line "crewCapacity = 0" and my MM config only checks for the presence of "crewCapacity" not if it is or is not a positive value...

I guess the stupid contract generator doesn't check the actual value of crewcapacity either

Yes, this sort of thing can happen... for example, the UKS mod currently has a bug that can cause this to happen with all the stock probe cores (so you can get a kerbal in a Stayputnik, for example).

There are really only two options:

1. Grapple it with a klaw and bring the whole thing back to Kerbin.

2. Make a trivial one-line edit to your game save file to turn it into, say, a Mk1 lander can, then re-load the game.

I normally hate the idea of manually editing a save file, but I confess I've been going with option #2 when I run into this problem, only because #1 is even worse for me (the klaw is so buggy that I seem to hit the kraken every time I ever use one-- I just never use it for any purpose ever, anymore).

I opted for #3 - Hyper edit it to a landing. I executed all the required maneuvers, I rendezvoused with it and then returned the rescue ship and recovered it, so to me it was more or less like #2. Although, I think I'll use #2 in the future.

I don't have UKS (USI Kolonization System). And I just got another one, Probodyne Okto this time. At least now I know that I can look in the Astronaut Center "assigned list" and see what the stranded Kerbals are flying.

OK, my trouble is that my own crew portraits mod has the same bug as UKS. I'll release a fix later today. released at kerbal stuff.
