"Eve: Order Zero" -- a KSP Graphic Novel (POSTLUDE COMPLETE...bet you didn't see THAT coming.)

Recommended Posts

I remember the first time I saw a base built into an asteroid. I just stared at it for several seconds, thinking "Cool!".

I've always appreciated them since.

That Kranefly looks like a nice ship.

I'm hoping to see the base that Kerbfleet will eventually build on that asteroid.

Happy landings!

And we're back! Hope everyone had a nice Interlude, the flotilla has arrived at the maneuver node and will now burn in sequence for Eve intercept.

I suppose if I were REALLY smart I'd have launched to LKO orbits at Eve inclination and I wouldn't have to waste fuel on planar correction burns...well, maybe next time :)

It's much more complicated than that (if you want to get inclined solar orbit, your Kerbin orbit will have signifficantly different inclination due to how the velocity vectors get summed)... and it doesn't help much for Hohman tranfers because you either already have transfer along the orbital plane intersection or you won't be able to fix it at the starting point anyway. (actually, for Moho this can alter the total delta v requirements quite signifficantly)

Ah, good point. 9km/s prograde + [tiny amount of vector pointing solar up/downwards] still equals about 9km/second :)

I love Dilsby's last line. Great as usual Kuzzter.

Thanks, and thank you for prodding me in this direction--I had overlooked Dilsby as a focal character and was going to make this pretty much the Bob and Tedus show until your note a few pages back :)

All right, you lucky Kerbs, three pages today--things are going to happen a bit faster now that I have my asteroids wrangled and the flotilla is nearing Eve!

As always I love getting your comments, PMs etc--your feedback (positive and otherwise) lets me know what you want to see in the comic.

Wonderfull Hollywood parody... cheers! Keep the good work on F5/F9, :D... Your Protagonists must stay alive in any case! I love the chars!
Thanks! Mr. Dilsby will of course do his best, and as we've seen Clauselle is pretty quick on the hotkeys. And the rest of the crew may have some hidden talents as well :)

No need to aerocapture. Yay :)

"Simulations" on one of the probes showed that that would be a Very Bad Idea. Dilsby's order to keep the shields for now is in case it becomes useful to brake in atmosphere post-capture. We'll see how that goes.

What's with going to Jool? And Moho? And what is the Dwagonfly? What about the Dres transfer? The Duna transfer stuff is left over from your other comic. (Unless you are flying another mission to Duna. Are you?)

Ah, you noticed that :) The alarms for Jool and Moho are just so I know when the transfer windows are, there are no ships involved in either. I thought about sending a probe to Jool at that window, but decided I would wait for the next one as it would distract from the comic. The Hummlebee alarm is indeed for the ship in the other comic--just like Spider-Man and the Avengers, both that one and this one are running in parallel timestreams :) And just like in the real comics, there will be crossovers from time to time like we just had in the Interlude.

Readers of "Duna, Ore Bust!" will note the difference in time between Hummlebee's intercept and the "official" Duna-Kerbin transfer. (Nice job, Bill!)

As to the others, Dwagonfly is the second of my two large asteroid haulers, presently wrangling a Class C destined for Minmus orbit to fulfill a contract.

I'm loving Dilsby! Very pleased that you decided to develop him further and enjoying the direction you've taken him immensely.

On another note, 'Space Beet' now means the same thing as Kraken. This is how strange etymologies happen.

Not that Kraken is part of the Kerbfleet canon. Well, I guess it is now, in the form of 'Space Beet' or 'Bete de l'espace' for the more cosmopolitan Kerbals.

Happy landings!

I suppose it just kind of happened that way--I didn't intend NOT to call it a Kraken, but since Clauselle was observing it it had to be French, and since no one else other than Melbe understands Frankais...

I really love this. However, you should do something about that Joolian window... :P

Thank you! Well, there will be another one, and I have BIG plans for Jool after these two missions conclude. Actually that is why I originally designed the 'bridge' for the Kerbahashi Maru simulator. Just have to figure out a way to pressurize it so they can take helmets off...

Also, I want to see this in a comic:

Use the force, jeb, use the force... T

No, I have not done this... but of course it's the engineers who are 'force sensitive' around here, they all have varying abilities to feel what's going on beyond their apparent reality. Bill has even edited the .sfs file on occasion... but don't worry, I will mine every possible scifi and pop cultural reference eventually :D

I hope the lack of solar panels doesn't compromise that part of the mission.

Actually they didn't all blow up! Tedus might deserve a commendation after all for managing to save a couple. You can see two glowing yellow folded panels remaining in the shot of the probe descending on parachutes, and both OX-STAT panels also survived. I don't think any of them would have without judicious use of the descent engine--actually I burned all of it, about 1000 m/s worth, to reduce velocity whenever I saw the temperature gauges about to spike. So it's a good thing the panels survived and I packed a lot of batteries, because there's nothing left to run the fuel cell :)

Also also, good luck with the Eve station. Salute! Wait, I still don't know about the Dres transfer!

Thanks! Like the others, that's just there so I know when the window is. I'm not actually planning to go to Dres. I mean...it's Dres.

Three more pages, two more ships into the Eve system!

One day, Dres will have the revenge on those who wronged it. Beware! :D

The asteroid field may make it a useful stopover point to and from Jool, I think that was a very nice addition in 1.x.

You're lucky that probe survived. One of my Eve probes got the aeroshells torn off on reentry. Eve is harsh!

Indeedy. My first thought was to just hit atmosphere with the shell still on, but 'simulations' showed that the shell offered little protection. That meant I had to use the whole transfer stage to capture, which meant that I had to eject the shell to get to the descent stage--so, no protection at all! It would certainly have burned up without judicious use of the decent engine.

This was a funny page! I love the probe's dialogue.

Thanks! And now here are some more probes for you :) The BattBot is on a fast track to Eve, dipping nearly to Moho's orbital radius in order to arrive in 185 days.
