ALT + 12? No.

Yesterday, I landed on Minmus with a three-Kerbal craft in my primary career mode profile, for a science mission to the greater flats. Just as I landed, I ran out of fuel, and I was stranded there. Previously I would have used the Alt + F12 for infinite fuel, but I had made a pact to not use that at all on this profile, so instead I sent a probe down to Minmus with an empty command pot. Well, that one landed on its side, and the Kerbals were still stranded. I sent the next rescue mission, and I landed it flawlessly about 1km away from the Kerbals. I brought them home safely, and then realized that if you use too much infinite fuel, especially on career mode, you can get anywhere, but it's not much fun, after all, you can get to Eeloo with a terrier and one miniscule fuel tank, although it will take a while! So, I don't think I'll be using ALT + F12 much anymore, except for the times when I ever-so-often make a sandbox mode profile just to fool around. KSP is an amazing game. :)

Good for you!

That's what makes KSP so fun- the harder you try and the harder you fail, the bigger the satisfaction of finally completing the mission.

That`s what makes this game so fun, the harder you try, the harder the fails....

In some sense that is very true. I think it is eloquent in the way that as the complexity of the crafts/ships you design increases so does the number of possible failure states. This is very much like the real world where adding additional complexity can be a detriment to the mission if it isn't absolutely needed. Add a strut? Sure. Well now that strut flew off and rips your fuel tank open. This works mainly in part to the lego block building style of the game. Failure states can be simulated in rigid body flight simulators of course, but it doesn't feel quite as natural IMHO.

Nice work. I've taken to playing no quickloads, barring for bugs, myself. It really puts the pressure on to nail things first time, and have an idea of what to do if stuff goes wrong.

That said, I do use the "Ignore Max Temperature" cheat a lot, because the heating system is so buggy and FAR makes it even worse.

Very rewarding indeed, I think yesterday was one of the most fun times I've had in KSP yet!

Ouch, very hard. No solar arrays? Oh no! And very true, more complex mission, more likelyhood of failure.

I agree, KSP is a very rewarding game, and one I think I will be playing for a long while to come!

For now I want to play this career mode profile a lot and do a lot of things on it, but for the next one I will customize the options and make no quickloads or reverts on my flights, so that will be interesting!

I haven't even tried 'infinite fuel' myself. The weight of fuel vs. weight of payload considerations and all their repercussions are so much an integral part of spaceflight that I can't imagine it otherwise (my enjoyment of "Star Wars" -style dogfighting notwithstanding, but that's after a substantial and willing suspension of disbelief)... I'm free with the "revert," though.

But again, it's largely a "sandbox" game. Everyone plays as they like. :) Consistent rules (apart from self-imposed limitations or challenges) are only useful in situations involving competition.

I'm not averse to cheating, but to me KSP is (as someone else expertly put it in another thread) a fuel-management game at heart, and once you get orbital mechanics out of the way managing your fuel usage is really the key gameplay. I've only used it once - I severely misjudged the amount of fuel needed for a Moho capture in sandbox mode my first time attempting a non-ion trip there. Never made that mistake again!
