Limit of experiment storage per pod???

Recommended Posts

I wanted to return 51 science experiments from my station, but when I stored them in a Mk1 lander can only 9 experiments could be stored.

There are no repeated experiments.

EDIT: apparently I had repeated experiments but did not know.

And apparently 42 were stored and 9 could not be stored.

Good question...

I once sent a rover mission to Mun. It was actually a lab-rover (lab and Cupola modules) that towed a trailer full of science experiments. The plan was to drive from biome to biome in a really wonky circumnavigation and collect all the surface science from everywhere. Eventually I'd get to the last biome, where I'd left a return lander to bring the crew and results home. Yes, it took hours. I got 3/4 of the way round, and then RL interrupted and I stopped playing, so I never finished the mission.

So, the way I was doing this was to use the lab to reset the experiments after a crewman had removed the data and stored it in the pods. I'm pretty sure I'd stored up well over 20 experiments (possibly way more, I only had 2 more biomes to hit), but I don't know if this was in the cupola or the lab, or a mixture of the 2.

If there is a storage cap per pod, returning could have been a major bummer.

I thought you could only store one experiment per type in a pod?

That's one experiment per type per biome. For instance, a pod can store one seismic experiment from Minmus Flats and another from Minmus Slopes, but it can't store two from Minmus Flats.

You can start multiple Biome from the highest one (Highlands or Peaks) in a place where other Biome are not far, i did 5 Eve Biome in less than 1 hour recently with a stable, heavy, powerfull Rover (see sig, stockbugfix for wheels was applied).

You can use a scientist to reset experiment (goo and materials) since 1.00.

Yes.

I had up to 40-50 scientific data stored on a scientist or in a pod during two recent missions, it looks like a bug if u can't store more than 5.

Yeah, the first time I tried to use the m700 scanner, I just put it in an equatorial orbit and got the message that it needs to be in a polar one. It immediately made sense, but how a noob is supposed to know those kinds of mechanics, and even if they are present in-game?

Some areas in the game are really lacking information.

I have never run into any limitation and I tend to use a single science lander to hit all biomes on the Mun or Minmus (with refueling stops of course). My guess is that you have a mod installed that is either intentionally or unintentionally putting a limit on the science experiments you can store.

I have never heard or encountered a limit to number of science experiments storage. I use mk1 lander can all the time to biome hop so the count goes up quickly without limit to my knowledge. I think the highest count I reached was 310. Well over the 9 from OP. Very odd to be limited at 9. Any way to reproduce it? Where were those 51 stored?

That is information that's really lacking in game.

That could be on the box art for the game. Actually, that'd have been a funny entry to the box art competition.

No one seems to know...

A lot of us know, it's just there are also a lot who don't know.

ALL command pods that seat at least one Kerbal can hold an infinite amount of science experiments. There is no limit in the game code for how many can be stored. The only restriction is you cannot have more than 1 per experiment/situation/biomes. For example, you can have an EVA report orbiting over the desert, flying over the desert, landed on the desert, and splashed down in the desert (yes, you can splash down in the desert if you aim right), and you can have those 4 experiments from all the biomes in the game (again some may take hunting. And obviously "splashed down on Minmus' Highlands" et. al. will be hard to come by) all in the same capsule. But the moment you take a 2nd of the same experiment from the same place in the same situation? BZZT. No space in the pod Joseph Kerman.

Well if there's no limit, then I think I have the same problem as the OP...

Assuming neither of you are running any mods (at least, none that would require me to install a bunch of mods just to load the saves) and you can provide me with your save files and a description of the ship with the problem, I'll happily take a look. Until then "I have a problem!" isn't a problem report that anybody can take any action on.

In a science lab

EDIT:

I was trying to store repeated experiments without knowing.:(

I did not even knew that I took repeated results...

Nah, it's been a while since I played career.

It's probably not even a problem per se, just lack of in-game information that got me confused.
