Ctrl-z

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had issue when building a rocket and lets say you have taken a piece off the ship and then press ctrl-z the ship appears back on the ship but the game becomes unplayable.

No buttons take any action anymore. The Ship gets all messed up.

The only fix is to fully close the game and re-open it. (No CTRL-Zing!)

Step away from the CTRL+Z keys! Using these ancient and mystical codes will summon a great and terrible beast.

Great meaning large or immense. I use it in the pejorative sense.

In my experience this happens, when you don't destroy the part(s) you pulled off.

Which means you can't use it to duplicate part(s).

If you pull parts off and then regret it. Destroy the part(s) before using Ctrl+Z. Then you'll have no trouble.

(I have actually managed to duplicate using the Ctrl+Z. It's handy because it includes Action Groups unlike Alt+Click duplicating. But on those rare occasions where it didn't bug right away, the craft still ended up being corrupted somehow, with weird symmetry and rooting errors.)

This has been my experience with it as well. I wonder what causes it to choke for others?

I've also never had a problem. Works just fine for me, including when I still have parts attached to the mouse.

Some theories:

- Might this be tied to KSP platform? i.e. "prone to lock-ups on <platform> but not <other platform>"? (I'm running 32-bit KSP on Windows.)

- Maybe a memory issue? i.e. maybe ctrl-Z causes a lot of memory churn, so if you're skating close to the RAM limit, it could cause you to go over the breaking point. If this is it, I would imagine that people who are running oodles of mods would be prone to breakage, whereas people running few mods wouldn't have an issue.

I think it bugs out when you still have the piece "attached" to your mouse. I never had issues with it if I dropped it in the parts bin first.

What Daid said. I also place the part so its not attached to the vessel, but still visible (ghostlike) in the VAB, and then hit Ctrl z. After the piece reappears then I discard the mistakenly pulled piece. Works nearly every time
