There should be a way to turn off "Can't activate engine while stowed"

Recommended Posts

This thing really annoys me. When trying to hide some Separatrons inside some boosters, or start an engine in an opened cargo bay, they don't work anymore after v1.0.0. All of my custom built LAS (which is stuffing some boosters inside a PF fairing) don't work anymore. I've seen people not being able to activate engines in some semi-closed space. Never paid too much attention on that one, but it seems to be there. In some cases, this could be helpful, but mostly (for me, at least) it's just plainly annoying.

So shouldn't there be a way we can turn it off for whoever doesn't want it?

I agree, the thing is,a lot of real world rocket actually start there engines inside the interstage before separation. And that “Cant activate engine while stowed†even show up when I have already separated from the interstage, theres nothing blocked the engine but it still shows “Occurredâ€Â

I've also experienced this issue. With rotors in Firespitter in open space, I cannot let them spin. The same rocket engine issue as well. Once ever 5 times I want to fire a ullage motor inside a tank/booster, it doesn't start and tells me about the stowed-thing.

the only way to deal with it is to separate the farings first, then fire the engines. It is so inconvinent.

In case they cannot fix, may be the is a good temporary solution to add the cheat: "Disable checks for now" and non-cheat "Force recalculate now!" ?

This should be a easy fix. Somebody has hacked \KSP_Data\Managed\Assembly-CSharp.dll to disable this thing (but it's against the EULA), and it would be a one-minute fix for Squad.

Why does this even exist in the first place?

Many parts are disabled while inside cargo bays. Engines aren't the only ones, but I understand that the bug that doesn't unshiled them is an annoying one.

This should be a easy fix.

Disabling the shielding and fixing the bug that makes it stick around after unstowing are two different things. In probably less than five minutes, I can make a plugin that kills this feature. However, that doesn't fix the root problem. There is zero reason to hack the .dll to disable this feature. So anyone distributing a hacked .dll is not only breaking the EULA, but could also be attempting to spread malicious code.

I am nearly 100% sure that this is one of the main reasons why 1.1 is delayed so much

You assume a lot. Rewriting a huge portion of the game's code, including virtually the entire GUI, and migrating to a new core engine takes a lot of time and effort for a small team of developers.

Cheers,

Hacking that DLL simply means deleting or disabling this feature from the code, as easy(easy?) at the x64 unfix. this is the way to fix the root problem. The dll-hacker said it IS possible for him to write a plugin to disable the feature ingame, but it's more difficult than hacking the dll, and needs to write functions that get active before and after stowing check, as well as percisly install modules in front of and at the back of ModuleEngines. I have no idea what code he is writing, but hacking seems to be the simplest way to do that.

One more thing, one of my friends has downloaded the hacked dll, and it worked great.

(sorry for my poor english...)
