The Katarina's unique planing hull design reduces hydrodynamic drag during its takeoff run. Water landing speeds are in the range of 35-50m/s - watch the sink rate! Activate flaps (Action Group 2) for takeoff.

Great design, dude! Vintage seaplanes have always been some of my favorite designs. I'm glad the overhauled hydrodynamics allows us to actually build them now

Beat me to it, I see. I built a (failed) flying boat yesterday named the PBK. It had a custom interior inside it with bunks and a navigation table and such, but it failed to get out of the water, the torpedoes failed, and the rear compartment flooded.

Nice plane though, It makes me want to give flying boats another go.

I like it! Good adaptation and yours looks closer to the proportions of a radial engine flying boat. I was half expecting to see a larger ship as per your earlier post, having a flyable PBK with walkable interior would be all kinds of awesome. With a Mk3 size design you could launch boats and submarines off the back too. I think a lot of people are playing SeaKuest DSV at the moment

One thing on planes with interiors, they work better in FAR as the voxel model doesn't add drag for clipped or internally mounted parts.

Yes please! I would like to fly air sea rescue missions or even buoy and sensor placement flights; more variety over current rescue missions, and Navy seaplanes were used to drop stuff over the ocean too.

It would be fun if the contracts spawned simple boat like targets too, I could make you some low poly lifeboats and civilian craft. Or just use round8 tanks as life preservers.

The better water and the new Porkjet plane parts are definitely worth releasing early. The turbofan, afterburner option and the Mk1 crew pod are often in demand.

The water is ridiculously fun to crash into and I was surprised we are able to dive underwater now. Squad once upon a time stated underwater operations won't be a priority due to space focus, but the same could be said for spaceplanes too - I once lobbied on the forums for mirror symmetry and some other plane related features.

I might carry on building different types of seaplanes, maybe a Be-200 or even an ekranoplan. We don't have ground effect simulation but with the stall speed in stock aero so low it could be fudged well enough to look the part.

That is such a beautiful design, and since the cattalina was my favorite plane in my childhood - I´m sorry, I had to copy that. I hope you don´t mind.

And it is the perfect plane to test that reverse thrust propulsion idea.

But hey, if you can make me a few boat crafts, I'll incorporate the best of them in the Contract Pack. PM me when you post them. I happen to have two boat building "contracts" and am going to start work on some basic small craft and maybe chop apart my old fishing trawler for a shipwreck you could spawn. I'm thinking it would be fun to have to rescue multiple kerbals so there is a necessity to bring larger rescue ships or even Thunderbird 2 to the scene if you can be evil / fun enough to make it a mission to recover the entire vessel!

Somewhere off the coast a clandestine rendezvous at sea took place.

Don't worry, the speedboat was not filled with contraband. It was just a shakedown cruise for the WaveRunner PC-1 speedboat, released separately in another thread. It's a very simple small boat powered by 2 concealed Juno engines, perfect for your Kerbal's first marine license and those overnight supply runs to Key West.

Awesome craft, I've adapted it to FAR today. Had to make some changes but it flies very well/ Also, KAX engines, and adjustable landing gear, just because I had them.
Added water rudder - FAR supports very simple hydrodynamic, so it really adds stability while on water.
Now the question, how to get it to Laythe?
