Mods that don't work

Hi, I`ve learned how to install mods lately, but some of them don't work. When you think of a "mod that doesn't work" you're problably thinking of a computer crash, a game meltdown ect. Me and my mods have been getting along, but, some of them don't actually show up in the game, like the mod where you can build bases on Duna or other planets. When those mods don't show up, they start producing random module manager things in my GameData and then it starts to say that Mechjeb is not working and will not function properly.

Its really driving me nuts right now(and KSP), have any of you got any advice? Please:D

Be sure to check the mod requirements: some mods require others to function correctly, for example, mods that modify the planets need Kopernicus to work and most mods use ModuleManager.
Also check that the mod you downloaded is compatible with your version of KSP: chances are a mod for 1.0.4 might not work with 1.0.5.
Make sure that the mods you use are compatible with each other, to avoid conflicts.
Finally, follow closely the modders' instruction when installing/uninstalling/updating their mods, to make sure that everything works correctly.

These few pieces of advice should give you a good start concerning your problem. If none of these work, then you might want to provide more information about your KSP install so that we can find the cause of your issue more easily.

There's a program called CKAN

You can install mods very easily through it(as long as they have been added to the online data base) and it will even let you know which other mods are not compatible with it, or which other mods it needs to work. It also will only let you download mods that are for your current version of ksp installed.  I started using it a couple ksp versions ago and while it hasnt completely eliminated any game crashing, its a lot more stable than if I had done it manually

CKAN is a crutch like Mechjeb. People need to do the community and themselves a favor and learn to do it manually first. %50 of the time I see someone complaining about an issue with a mod CKAN is often involved.

Do it manually. You just have to do more reading of each thread you download a mod from to ensure compatibility and others. It's for the best. Your learning about the functionality of each mod and it's current state. This way when there's an issue your better equipped to troubleshoot it quickly and on your own.

Hey, thanks for the advice, all of my mods are in date, and no conflict on each other, but on Curse it has that category on the left, I was wondering if you can only have one mod per category? Like 2 Gameplay mods ect.

No limit on mods per category. One thing I do when I have problems with a mod is to make a new test directory with a fresh KSP install. Then load only the problem mod in the fresh install (with any needed support mods). If it still doesn't work you either have a bad install (forgot a needed helper mod, stuck something in the wrong place, wrong version, etc.) or the mod has a problem. At this point I go back and read the forum thread looking for posts of the issue I'm seeing and double checking requirements. If the problem disappears you goofed the main game install or there's a conflict - again search the forum for clues as to possible conflicts. Good luck!
