I love making planes in KSP, but i have to make my planes 1 meter or use the mk3 parts, which are usually too big for what im doing. If i dont use them, then i have to use the 2.5 meter cockpits, which look ugly on a plane. I am thinking of a more rounded cockpit which is mainly glass, and a more standard plane cockpit, perhaps a modified mk1 cockpit. I dunno. I would just like to see 2.5 meter plane cockpit. I would also like to see 2.5 meter cargo bays, similar to the mk3 cargo bays, (open on both ends and only one side opens) because then 2.5 meter shuttles would be easier to make.

More love for 2.5 meter planes is what im asking.

Personally, a sized up version of the Mk2 parts is what would most make me happy: same basic cross-section, same body-lift characteristics, hell even same parts... just sized so the 'core' is 2.5m instead of 1.25m sized (or said otherwise: sized up so the Mk2 cargo bay can fit the regular 2.5m parts).

I'm all for the B-29 cockpit. I love high visibility glass-first cockpits.

I voted for 2.5m plane parts, but I think that new textures and fuel switch would be enough.

B-29 cockpit ftw. so ppl can build better millenium falcons ;)

The OPT spaceplane mod has three 2.5m cockpits. One of them is quite similar to the b-52.  (see pic below). Imo download the mod, especially if you like planes.. however.. delete most of the op engines.

As for the cargo bays, yes I do still miss them. Them not being stock actually surprised me not too long ago. (I choose this in the poll). Imo both the 2.5m cockpit and the cargobay should be stock to complete the sets and provide more options for spaceshuttles, which seems a pretty core element to the game and yet, the need for these parts are there after 80h of gametime...

I was thinking what I'd miss after those parts.. It is probably a never ending wishlist. Thankfully ksp has a few modders, and making extra parts doesn't seem to be that difficult.

Eventually the only mod to satisfy your creativity after 200h of gameplay is the procedural parts mod (which I still have to download). It also enables you to make your 2.5m cargobay ;)

peace

Many of them could work for both, and should, really. I know they're rethinking some of the rocket logic, I really hope we'll get a fuel-switch type option for tanks. I'd love to have a larger 2.5m bay option as well. It's a bummer that after putting a materials bay in the service bay there's no more room for  another inline 1.25m part.

Maybe in a much later update. KSP has been getting far too much attention in the air plane department. It's time to move back to rocket parts for awhile.

I *think* it will be like @HarvesteR does a rocket facelift and @Porkjet does the mk2 planes. Hasn't it always been this way? One person does rocket stuff and another does other stuff?

Don't think so. Not sure how much modeling Harvester does if any. Porkjet will be redoing the rocket parts for 1.2 and on. ( Which is desperately needed as opposed to more plane parts ) Not only have a slew of plane parts been added they've also face lifted the old ones. Attention the rocket parts have yet to receive despite it being Kerbal Space Program. We got the Vector and a new Thud... and that's it from what I can recall.

That wasn't the point. The point is one person usually does something. So for example the team can do a rocket facelift and someone who doesn't like rockets as much as planes and we can get 2.5 m parts. So when all the attention is to the planes rockets get little things right? So new rockets get attention and planes get little things.

So your saying why can't we have new plane parts thrown in on the side along with the rockets? Sure.

But why? We certainly do not need more plane parts. But we do need new and redone rocket parts. A monumental job that. One where I would rather have all resources on deck for. Priorities. Something more plane parts does not fall under.

A simple 2.5m fuelsalage? Sure. A new cockpit with an IVA? No, I'd rather see the time and effort go into a 2 man crew capsule.

I agree with you for the most part. But building a plane in KSP is still quite limited. I agree the rockets need more attention, the tanks look ugly now. We do need more parts for both planes and rockets.

Yes, we don't need plane parts as a priority, but anything that adds to the game will be greatly appreciated by many of the players.

Happy Flying

Edit: The spaceplanes facelift "era" started when squad incorporated Porkjet's Spaceplanes mod, which rocket mod (that fits in with the Porkjet style) would you like to see in the stock game?

All of this is great. Voted for option 2, but honestly, neither rockets or planes need most now, a certai hybrid of the two, AHEM, gmthe spaceplane, is slightly and extremely lonely, such as some variety in the engines..

Nevermind, I'll just make a thread for spaceplanes.

I posted this in the other thread but I'll put it here as well:

  • 2.5m cockpit, say SpaceShipOne shaped, 3 man crew
  • 2.5m LF tanks of different length
  • short 2.5m to mk3 adapter, the current one is too long
  • 2.5m cargo bay, would be useful for rockets too
  • 2.5m inline docking bay, with built in RCS storage
  • hollow double ogive (ie, bullet shaped) nose cone, the fact that it's hollow allows you to fill the inside with all sort of instrumentation ala mk1 fuselage
