Stupid, dumb landing leg  But they didn't say it exploded, so.... could we reuse it?

If it fell in the water, the salt probably damaged the integrity of the rocket body. So no, it wouldn't be reusable. They might be able to salvage some, debris, though.

Exactly.  They can get a lot of money in scrap metal...

If a fifteen story aluminum can filled with oxidizer and fuel residuals fell sideways, I think the least of their problems would be salt water corrosion.

Rune. It's hard to put these things in perspective.

Or just sell it to a museum. Hopefully there's space for it somewhere...

If the rocket body is fine overall..

Damn, seems like every time there's this ONE thing that screws it up, and it's always *this* close to making it.

Yep... that was a very kerbal way for a rocket to fail.

"Yeah, that looks spot-on, velocity is fine, now I just need to.... erm... what... no... REALLY??"

Technically they still landed just fine, I'd call it a successful landing. It just failed the "maintain stability for ten seconds" part of the contract. :D

But seriously, it touchdowned with no velocity and stood fine till the leg finally collapsed. (is touchdowned a word? :sticktongue: )

Exactly my point.  The only failure was that stupid leg.  They should get a new leg manufacturer like what they did with struts.  BTW, it's touched down, not touchdowned.

Just wondering, why does this have a separate thread? The Recovery/Reusability thread covers all of this already.

I was covering the live stream as it happened so it was easier to just get the basic information on the status of the entire mission.  It wasn't meant to just be about the landing.

Don't listen to NFL announcers: "touchdowned" would be the least of their crimes against English.

I can see Elon Musk having the same issue with Kerbal lawyers as Scott Manley's recent "space ships are serious business" youtube run ("what do you mean I had to maintain it for 10 seconds").

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
