ksp 2?

Recommended Posts

There likely won't be a "KSP 2" simply because there's no reason to be a second game. Anything that can advance this game to something better will likely just come as an update.

If squad did decide to make another game, it won't be a successor to ksp.

This post is stupid. Usually, SQUAD would just send out an update.

I'm pretty sure the OP meant that if there was a KSP 2 ever made, it would look like the link above. i don't think he was suggesting it.

There will be ksp2. Squad is business not hobby at some point they will decide to make new game to have fresh income with cash. And since ksp is such a success it doesn't make a sense not to try luck with ksp 2. It all is matter of time.

Yes, we get 1.1, 1.2 and perhaps 1.3 even 1.4, then it is likely to change into an expansion pack for the next update.
An 2.0 will be an larger undertaking.

There will be no KSP 2. I guarantee it.

You sound very intimidating, I'm not sure I want to ask what you mean. Perhaps the less we know is the better.

Though books could be filled with stuff that someone stated will never happen and than happened.

My guess is SQUAD will keep on updating KSP until we get to version 1.9. Then they will have to go to 1.9.9 and then 1.9.9.9 and so on. I don't think they will go to 2.0. In the end i think it will be version 1.9.9.9.9.9.9.9.9.9.9.9.9.9.9.9.9. And then SQUAD will retire.

You must be very easily intimidated! :D

It's a leap of logic I agree but a sound one. It makes no sense to make a second KSP. Why not just update the current one?

I like to think of KSP2 as a major update rather than a whole new game.

An engine change for example: if Squad start to feel the need for a custom KSP engine in the late development of the game because Unity no longer fits their ambitions, then why not a KSP2 with a KerbalEngine.

Not saying it's going to happen though... but if it does I'd rather a massive overhaul of the game/gameplay than a new game with the sole purpose of being an eye-candy.

@worir4 What about KSP 1.10 ? :wink:

New engine and the appropriate income for such an endeavor?

Games like this do not have squeals. You think Squad will want to remake the entire game in a new engine? No freaking way. I would bet real money on it. Squad will make KSP as good as it can be then leave it. They may make another game but I doubt it and if they do it will not be KSP 2.

If the potential for money is there, why not? Squad made the noble but unwise promise to never charge for an update, so they've cut themselves off from that income stream.

A version 2 using a high performance game engine would be viable for various reasons:

  • There is an existing market (as KSP 1 has proven)
  • It would generate fresh income from existing players, and I'm sure a large amount of those will happily fork over new money for a totally awesome remake with various improvements
  • Existing content can be reused to a large extend (reducing initial development costs)
  • It offers the ability to make game changes that cannot be made currently (rescaling to Earth sizes, revamping career mode, etc)

Of course there's a good chance that Squad totally had it with KSP by the time the final 1.x version is released. On the other hand, Microsoft's Flight Simulator (or SubLogic's if you want to be strict) went through various iterations, so why not?

You can't expect a new version using the same assets to look any better than the existing version. If the art isn't pretty enough, it's the assets that are the problem, not the engine. The existing mods (RSS, etc) prove that scaling up the system is completely possible in the existing engine.

Plus, there's always the elephant in the room: Squad isn't a software company, and they have neither the manpower nor the expertise to work in a different engine. Either way, I've seen no evidence that the chosen engine is the limiting factor...

 so why not?

Squad consists of about 10 people, maybe less, even fewer coders. You think they want to remake the entire game just to make it look better? Not a chance.

It would be an exercise in absurdity. And this whole argument comes back to, why not just improve the game we have now? Remaking the whole thing is akin to reinventing the wheel. A waste of time. It won't happen man.

edit: Who's face is that in your pic?
