Sneak peek at Xbox One version!

Recommended Posts

He must be using a keyboard and mouse on that Xbox One. Also, this could serve as an early 1.1 demo! Lots of little features that only 1.1 has (orbits, gui).

Has it been discussed whether the console versions will have mod support? If yes, how will that be accomplished? I'm hoping for some sort of easy-to-use GUI store-like site that auto-updates, and that will also be available to PC users. With Kerbalstuff gone, and CKAN kind of a kludge, an official mod store that handles installation and updates would be awesome and about f'ing time.

If no, that just makes me sad.

I don't think he is using a keyboard and mouse.  You can tell by the pointer movements, especially in the VAB, that he is attempting to do it using an analog pad and at times struggles, overshooting his button.  I have a feeling this is the area that consoles (other than Wii U assuming the touch screen is good) will have the hardest time with.

Microsoft and Sony have 'mod' platforms coming up for their XBLM and PSN stores respectively, Fallout 4 (via the GECK) is slated to be the first game to use them (although Sony has also said FFXIV is also going to get mod support).

It is a bit worrying though that Bethesda says the support is coming, but there basically hasn't been anything from MS or Sony about it in quite a while

Anyway, sidetracked, if (when) mod support arrives for consoles, maybe Squad can hook KSP into it as well (but they'd be crazy to even suggest the possibility until they know exactly how they're going to work, like how they'll be curated, what Squad would need to do to ensure mods couldn't break the games sandbox, what it'll cost to have KSP mod enabled etc).

Me too. I'm excited I will get a real KSP experience.

Also, your YouTube videos look cool. I subscribed to you and will be checking out your videos.

Thanks, I'm going to be uploading sometime today.

Can anyone confirm if this is the final version of the XBOX1 version? The fact that the game is running in the yellow with only 75 parts is concerning and should be discussed.

@ ~55 seconds he said the developers told him they wanted to try to get it out before E3.

E3 is in June so I seriously doubt it is even close to final.

Unfortunately, consoles aren't going to be able to handle the game without some serious optimizations and some compromises. I feel like it's not going to be that enjoyable on console, but I guess we'll see.

Possibly. Why no info with the video if it is running slower than the retail version will though? I have never seen a developer show an early game version and not say something like 'this is not indicative of final experience' ect.

I understand that there will be compromises but it looks like the game will run in slow motion the entire time if the timer flickers green/yellow even with a single kerbal EVA in Kerbin 'orbit'. It was solid yellow (slow motion) with only 75 parts.

Honestly, it really doesn't look very fun to manuever that cursor around with the analog stick... Things like transferring fuel or crew must be super tedious.

Oh god, what about fighting the right click menu when your craft is spinning out of control?

Thehorror...

One thing mentioned in the devnotes a few weeks ago is that the rt click menu stays put in 1.1.

I imagine my boys will be wanting this for their XB1

I would wait, check youtube videos, reviews ect before shelling out. Looks to be major performance issues in the shown version.

Agreed, he said there is no difference, but im betting that the Xbox1 version will have reduced graphics or something, and there as it stands needs to be major optimization for it to be ready for the console

I think using the joystick as a virtual mouse was just an easy way to get the same game working on a console without redesigning the UI.

You would want to use tabs for selecting everything in the UI for a gamepad only game rather than moving a virtual mouse to click a button. I'm sure this was discussed and this was the best compromise.
