Going into IVA switches control point (even when point is not a command part)

Recommended Posts

This one's been around pretty much forever. I've had problems because of it recently so I'm posting it up again.

If you set the control point for a vessel and then go into the IVA view of a different part, the control point of the vessel switches to that second part. Thsi happens even if that second part is not a command part. It shouldn't happen at all, not even for command parts.

Yes. One must be very careful with this effect. I make a comic on the forum, and often need to take shots from different positions and locations in the ship to tell the story the way I want. Sometimes I forget about this, and I set prograde or retro hold for a burn while I jump through different IVA views to get reaction shots of the crew. Hilarity ensues :)

So, not sure you're really asking a 'question' here. Looks more like a PSA, and a very useful and well-done video of one :)

NathanKell posted info a nice hidden treat that should fixe this behaviour on the KSP subreddit. There's no GUI setting for this so it would have to be set by editing the file directly. I'm not sure whether this also fixes it for non-command pods, I will check tonight.

The switch of control point when going IVA can be turned off in settings.cfg. Change IVA_RESETS_CONTROL_POINT from True to False.

I added that in 1.0.5.
