I claim the save file ...

I'm confused...

The last save file link I see is from Jetski after his maintenance mission.

After that I see KAL 9000 and max_creative talking about conflicting changes but nobody has claimed the save file or posted a new link.

So I claim the save file (from Jetski after the maintenance mission.)

I'll be quick.  If anyone else has the file or I'm missing something let me know.

Ok, I'm still confused though. I see discussion but I don't see anyone explicitly claiming the save file (or linking to a new one) since Jetski's maintenance mission.  I'll abandon my mission and try later.  I release any claim on the save file.

Really wish I could send up a tug for everyone but my lowest part count gets to ~ 14 without docking ports :((darn RCS thrusters) still looks like an awesome challenge! Good luck to... Well everyone :D:D:D And bring back awesome pics of the beach party on Laythe!

I need to go to sleep now, so if KAL9000 gets done, then someone else can go, as long as they get done before 1300 UTC tomorrow.

KSP keeps crashing on me :(. Luckily, I quicksave and make progress each time. Right now, rendezvous is complete. I had MechJeb start the docking, because although I'm good at docking, I don't want to accidentally bump into and break anything. The first section of the SSTO was almost docked... And then KSP crashed.

Ok, sounds like @KAL 9000 will have to try again later. Latest save is my maintenance mission posted on the OP. Cleared for next launch. I'll encourage people to test fly their modules before taking the save, so others can contribute in the meantime. Cant help kraken attacks though :)  Cant wait to see the next module!

Understood. I have screenshots of the failed mission, though! It was launched on a Delta IV from the Real-Scale Boosters Stockalike mod, but all modded (besides KAS/KIS, which we all have) parts were deorbited or didn't make it into orbit.

Here's the link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o8qdyho5vhmozq0/KSS.sfs?dl=0

I also added the remaining fuel and oxidizer that wasn't needed for the deorbit burn (about 500 units).

I've tested the heat shield module with up to 40 tons, and as long as the vessel behind it has enough control authority to keep it pointing forwards, it can handle a reasonable Jool aerocapture. It doesn't have any propulsion (including RCS) and can't generate electricity (although it can store 4000), so make sure you're on the right trajectory for the descent probe to descend into the atmosphere when you undock it. I suggest doing this at your apoapsis after aerocapture/braking.

Done

I added a large fuel "capsule" and topped off all of the LF/O fuel tanks on the station.

My thought is that I would fly up 7 docking ports on my next mission and attach them to the capsule.  Then perhaps start moving modules to the capsule as the core of a proper space station.. as opposed to a bunch of lawn darts in a smallish asteroid.  What do you think?

I'm pretty sure the claw of the module I attached the capsule to is attached to the drill not the asteroid.  That's why it seems to me floating in space.

Here's the current station:

Here's the mission album:

@Jetski Perhaps make an entirely new shipyard for the Jool mission? This would allow you to raise the part count because you would not have to deal with the lag of the rest of the station. I say this because it is more or less impossible to make a useful ship section with 8 parts

It's very doable.  Here's a Jool capable ship in two missions:

Pol/Bop/Val capable lander: 6 parts plus docking port

Mothership: 8 parts plus docking port

That said, I think multiple stations would not be a bad idea.

Or I could replace the class B with a class E with my new KSS rocket mountain express... If the pad doesn't explode during the final testing today...

You say impossible, I say engineering challenge. :)

Post! Failed missions are part of the fun. Also KIS &KAS part can be used during mission but not left on station. It has to be usable pure stock, and any mod parts at all will delete the station on load.

OK, I will post the screenshots in a bit.
