$18 would still be a bargain. Based off the price and amount of time played, this is the second cheapest game I\'ve bought, costing less than 20c per hour. (Cheapest was Garry\'s Mod, coming in at less than 5c/hr)

Can\'t wait to see the new update! Also, according to my friend Michael who prices games at a store for a living, said that a gam like KSP would normally fetch around thirty to forty USD, so eighteen is a steal!

Even though I fully support the development of this game, that price would be a bit high. I think it should go up to $40/$50. With Squad hoping to release game merchandise they would make plenty of money from the game.

That\'s still growing. And honestly how many big budget games can you name that cost $50+ Dollars and have given you less satisfaction than this gem.

Quite a few actually. I was just talking about this in IRC. You get a lot of bang for your buck at this price as well as future releases. You just can\'t beat that!

I haven\'t bought a big budget game near release since the let-down that was Spore.

It does annoy me a lot that the expensive games are usually fun for a few hours, then tolerable for a few dozen more, while there are indy gems out there that cost less than $20 and provide hundreds of hours of entertainment.

I use 'hours per dollar' as my value metric for games, with exceptions here and there. A retail DVD game should give me at least 1 hour per dollar to make it worth my money - otherwise, I\'ll go broke and run out of games to play. Kerbal Space Program has probably given me 3 hours per dollar and counting. What a deal!

I would keep the price down to like 20 to 30 dollars. When Squad becomes a bigger \'company\'. I would have a market for KSP. Have a store online that sells models of spaceships or something. I think that would be a great idea, but not an easy one. This is a fast-growing game.

Hopefully once the game hits 1.0 3D printed stuff will be cheap enough for it to be feasible to sell little models of rocket parts from the game the could clip together like Lego. Id pay $50 for a command module, a few tanks and boosters and engines etc.

I don\'t want to be a downer but I think it a terrible idea to raise the price too much. I think 20 is even pushing it a little. At the moment none of the gameplay mechanics are implemented. By that i mean missions, campaign, etc. If its priced too high new buyers will be expecting these to be both finished and polished. It could lead to much negative publicity if they\'re not satisfied.

I love KSP but I think at the moment it\'s a bit premature to charge too much.

They should just sell the parts separately then, at a cheaper price, so you can buy as many, and make models of some of the crazy designs we see now.

I know that was off topic, also, I got the game while it was $10 USD, and I will get the full game at $10, I feel thats a steal with some of todays game designer ideas. They hand out the unfinished copy, at a cheaper price to the public, and get them interested, to tell other people about the game, then as they make it better, they make it a little more expensive, until the full release, were they really release it to the public.

KSP in a $20 alpha version is more fun, has more replay value, and has fewer serious glitches than the final versions of most games the big companies will charge you $50 for. On top of that, the established companies mostly just put out sequels that are really the same old game with spiffier graphics, but no new ideas or gameplay innovations. It\'s like they want another $50 for the same game they\'ve already sold to you. KSP only wants $20 for something genuinely novel.

$50?!? Be glad you don\'t live in Australia. With our dollar worth about 1 US$, we still have to pay $70-100 for a new release game, even on digital distribution platforms like Steam!

It\'s the same model Mojang used, and all of them had their own Scrooge McDuck piles of gold by the time Minecraft hit release.

Some people use their life savings, some people use Kickstarter, some people get investors like a publisher, and then some just start selling the game while it is early in development. Bear in mind there is a certain whispered rule that if you do buy the game while it is still in development, it is good karma to act as a playtester and share bugs you find. Although I think there are enough gamers right now putting in their share where if you don\'t, you needn\'t feel guilty.

I would have no problem with parts packs sold as DLC, but not until after game release. For now there are enough modders to give us plenty of variety during each major update.

I recently bought a new PS3 about 3 months ago for around $320 AUS. Games range from $80-$110 AUS.

Bought KSP for $15 US 2 months ago.

Haven\'t touched PS3 in 2 months!! 8)

It\'s really peculiar.

How do you get around assigning a price to a copy?

Do you divide the expected amount of copies sold by the expense invested, and add a little profit margin?

Do you set a common-sounding price based on what other games sell for?

Could Squad tell how they determine the price to ask, if it\'s not too terribly secret?

It should be interesting to see a real world example of such a decision making process.

Then again, i came from a culture where software costs ~$2 per CD, ~$3 per DVD, regardless of content.

It really is hard to explain over here why does, say, Windows, cost $200 - it\'s a DVD, it should cost $3, period.

On topic, $18 still is a reasonable price for a game that can provide nearly unlimited amount of hours of fun - limited only by your imagination and free time. As the hour per $ in entertainment go, that\'s a bargain.

Why are there e-mails about price increase going to people who already bought the game?

I\'d say every other game except for the total war series, civilization series, and starcraft currently fall short of KSP\'s value for money right now... and KSP is still alpha.

This game is great, and is going to be... Hmmm. I can\'t think of a superlative enough adjective. Lets go with supercalifragijebiliciously great. It is well worth the 15$, or 18$. If they had options other then paypal then donate, I would probably donate more.
