Is it expected that new branches will be added to the tech tree?

Is it expected that new branches will be added to the tech tree? I'd like to know whether it's worth saving any science points so I can immediately unlock any upcoming extensions to the tech tree.

From what they've said, the immediately upcoming 1.1.3 is basically just a bugfix release, no new features.  So, you shouldn't expect any tech nodes there.

1.2 is open to more speculation... but they haven't added any new nodes in many releases, and I wouldn't be surprised if the tech tree stays static.  Even if they were to add any, 1.2 is still a long ways off, so I wouldn't think it would be worth your trying to "plan" for it by hoarding science points.

My two cents:  just go ahead and spend your science points on whatever's useful to you now.

The progression of tech tree is ridiculous. IMO the nodes should be independent from each other and be researched with money and time instead of science points.

The science points are unnecessary and ruin the whole "progression" of the game, because they make it backwards (Get science -> Get better parts). Science should be disconnected from tech research and give you rep instead (Reputation -> Money -> Better tech -> Vessels which do science -> Reputation).

I get the science points from a gaming perspective, they don't hurt my (personal taste in) game or immersion much. The progression, tho, I agree, it's completely ridiculous. I started a new savegame on career hard plus some tweaks (KCT + USI-LS mostly) and I'm getting bored by the grind, and just looking at what I have to unlock to actually get to what I want, which feels totally unrelated to the other parts, doesn't help. There are some better techtrees out there, but unfortunately for me most of them focus too much on mod parts and leave too many empty spaces on a mostly stock install.

I was hoping for something even more complex, which involved going through the nonsense that NASA has to deal with (politics). The more extravagant the mission, the more public interest you'll generate, and the more federal funding you'll have. You can get by for a while just sending probes, but sooner or later, to maintain public appeal, nothing beats risking life and limb to put boots on the ground of another world.

On science points, yeeeah. Most space problems can be solved simply by throwing more money at them.

Exactly. The science points block the opportunity to do that. It all looks like the devs tried to base the idea on three resources for some odd reason, and then were like "Welp! I guess we now try and balance this whole thing!". The problem is balancing something is not enough if the whole core of the idea is broken.
