Help with a Plugin----Career Hub (Promotions and Retirement)

Recommended Posts

I have a suggestion for a mod.

I started messing around with the traits.cfg and began thinking about what traits and careers could have been like in KSP.
While I do like the simplicity of what Squad put together in terms of professions and careers, I couldn't help but wish it could have been a little more in depth and fleshed out.

For example, why do kerbals have one set of traits? Why not let them over lap a little? Why just give them skill stars, why not a promotion system?

HERE  is my proposal that I will definitely need help with because plugins are something I've never done.

This is brilliant!!!

Sadly I'm completely unable to help you creating a plugin for this, but I think you can find more than one able to.

I hope so but so far no takers

Glad you like the idea hopefully some one jumps on this soon :)

i dont necessarily want anyone to make the entire mod but just point me in the right direction. Like what programs should i be using. Unity Pro? or are there other things i can use? i have never attempted anything like this but im really looking forward to the challenge. Im not completely incompetent and love scripting. i have just never messed with unity or much of c# so really i just need a solid jumping off point

My recommendation is to look at the code in Roster Manager.  You will get an idea of how a plugin is created. It by no means is the most elegant code, but will offer a starting point.  You should look at the code of any of the mods on Git, and they should give you insights and ideas for your self.

Also check out the KSPModders IRC channel.  They also can help you even if you are just starting out.  Usually they are a pretty good bunch of peeps :P

That is almost exactly what I'm trying to do minus the training.  Training though does sound like something I would want to add. It practically goes hand in hand with the skills and experience needed for promotion.  OK so I am serious about learning so I can make this happen just need to find the time now :)

So im taking classes on how to program in Unity at the Art Institute but it hasn't been much of a help. I have basically been taught how to create a ball collecting game that i could have taught myself watching tutorials on the Unity website.. I dont have the time to figure out the KSP API either so it looks like this idea will be put to rest.
