How do they compare to each other in top speed? IRL, the delta-wing config was for faster speeds.

That's a good looking replica.  Well done.  Of course the real kudos comes when you can get the same plane to transition to swept wing configuration and back.  Now that really would be something, and good luck to anyone who attempts it.

Thanks! I don't have an exact number for top speed in KSP, but there is a noticeable difference in drag, lift, and handling (notably at low speeds) Which would all equate to slower top speed for the "unswept" cat. And yes you are correct, the delta wing config was designed mostly for supersonic flight.

Glad you guys dig it. Its my understanding there are mods that would allow you to have the wings move in real time, and I'd love to give that a shot. However I thought I would use stock parts for my design so anyone interested could fly my replicas no hassle. In the future I may just look into that option though, thanks for the input.

I'm with you.  I don't use modded parts, apart from a lander can that is way better looking than the stock 2-man can and does exactly the same job, so would always be interested in a swing wing aircraft if anyone can build one using stock parts only.

It might yeah! It is the smallest hinge you can make stock so it has a chance! It woul take some wrangling though.. If I had time I would have a go, but alas, I do not..

Well, i tried that just now. And i can say with confidence, that it's going to be near impossible and also very impractical.

Firstly, your going to be creating 3 separate crafts (plane and 2 wings after separation). That means you lose control over everything that was attached to the wings (flaps, decouplers, guns, etc.).

Secondly...

Bye wings, ill see you on the ground.

I suggest just using Infernal Robotics for that. It saves you a lot of trouble, time and headaches.
