I love it,in fact when I was googling for dakar this one I liked most.

But could you please replace "kerbin ksc" with "kerbal edition" ?

And if you could make me a flagsized version I'll be happy to smack that on my madmaxmobile &)

Yeah, i can do that.

Tough you will have to wait till next week for that (don't have Photoshop myself, and rest of this week classes are on another computer that has no photoshop).

I will make it flag sized as well, since i was planning on using it with the Nebula decals mod.

No problem, challenge will start January 1st. enough time.

For the challenge, I am now at the first flag ready to start.

The best way to time the stage is by making a screenshot here and hit the "W" key as fast as you can.

Next step will be to stop close (?) to the next flag and make a screenshot.

Then calculate the correct time between those screenshots and that will be your time.

Best I can do without a timer mod, you guys agree ?

please let me know your 5 cents.

Sounds good to me ... pretty much what I was going to do (if I don't just record it instead )

Although I'm just gonna start from the runway which will add a few seconds or so, but I'll take the hit ... Same with at each stage, I will use vessel mover to spawn a new vehicle at each checkpoint so the time will be reset to 0 each leg of the race (I will take a hit of a few seconds at each time but I'm ok with that)

Good point, driving to a start is pointless.

I will remove the first flag and let the start be on the runway.

Don't remove it ... Leave it there so people have to drive around it

I'm taking it on it's left side and turning right towards the hills

Drive around it can not be proved so no.

The reason the flag is there is that it used to be the finish.

But that would be so boring that I decided to finish at the mountain (stage 1, or second flag)

So the finish isn't at the end of the runway? ..., It was changed?

Hate to say it but, yes.

Read the first post.

Sorry dudes, I never expected so much attention for this WIP challenge.

So many posts, but I do my best to start the new year with a awesome challenge. ^_^

I already have names for landforms in Stage I.  The large hill around the middle is "Hell Hill".  The last 7KM or so is "Victory Valley".

I like the idea of naming the stages, stage 2 + 3 are hell, but there are a lot of deathtraps in the rest of the stages.

I will keep the name "Victory Valley" for the final stage.

"Hell Hill" is debatable since 2+3 are both.

I just ran Stage I so far.  I am going to run the others soon.  Stage 2 once my video I filmed gets uploaded.

Here it is, and I THINK I have my car!!!  Put me in the Electric class.  I will do my official run Jan 1sty.

Finally trying your track, @Triop . Nice layout so far. Thanks for taking the time. Those hills right at the end of stage one will catch you sleeping, if your not careful!

"Hey, look at that? Stage one, pedal to the metal the whole w- OHCRAP!"

Makes me wanna pick my Elcano trip back up... :)

EDIT: if your Kerbals are in external command seats, refrain from bulldozing the flags at 45m/s. The flag stole Jebs seat.

Cool design, I like it ... But you do realize that there be a bunch of hills, bumps and just generally crappy terrain to drive over ... with how low your craft is you're gonna be loosing parts left, right and center

Thanks. It does tend to loose some parts (mainly at the front)

Did manage to drive to the mountains though

How do i install the save corecktly???

I can't work it out either.

I tried making a new save and replacing its persistance file with the downloaded one but it keeps saying it is incompatible (I am using 1.2.2)

Not as fast as Star Racer YKR due to a lot of drag but I'm finally happy with my modified Charger R/D (Road/Dirt). It looks like a blend between Fast & Furious and Mad Max.

After the first stage It already consumed 150 of the 600 units of fuel. I'm glad I'll be running in economy mode for a while.

1- Download the Dakar2017.sfs save file form the link provided in the OP
2- Start KSP and start a new game called Dakar2017 ... after it loads, press escape to get the menu up
3- Go to your desktop and copy the Dakar2017.sfs save game to the save game folder that you just created which will be found in your KSP directory ... {your KSP install location}/savegames/Dakar2017
4- Go back into KSP, click on 'load save' and select Dakar2017
5- Start racing

Why don't bundle it like : Saves/Dakar2017/Dakar2017.sfs ? Like most mod do with a structure GameData/MyMod/MyDll.dll

Managed a 17 minute time in my shakedown of the first stage

Only lost two parts but did have to stop to fix 3 tires

Nice ...

Just an FYI though ... The discussion/showcase for the entry vehicles is here:
