Help! How do I fix this?

See how tiny the scroll bar is on the right? This goes on forever and ever and ever...

How do I debug it to find what's been causing this to happen?

Or, how do I just fix the tech tree and delete those dublicates manually?

I got a few mods installed, and removed a few mods again, too.

Currently installed:

- Docking Port Alignment [v6.5.2]
- MechJeb2 [v2.6.0.0]
- OPT Space Plane Parts [v1.9.2]
- WarpShipIXSEnterprise

But all of these have their parts showing up in the correct, mostly far right, tech nodes...

That thing happens if given part appears twice in GameData, in two places under the same name. Delete mods and unpack them fresh, and/or check if these parts didn't get duplicated somehow somewhere in Gamedata

I think GameData\Squad contains all the vanilla parts, right?

All I got in GameData for parts are these folders:

I am wary of WarpShipIXS_Enterprise. I run the other mods now just fine. Do you use Ckan and what opperating system do you use?

Correct; the jet is defined in 'jetEngineBig.cfg' so first check if that file didn't get duplicated somewhere, or launch full text search for the string "turboFanSize2" on the GameData directory. There should be only one instance, in GameData\Squad\Parts\Engine\jetEngines\

I don't use Ckan, and I'm running Win7. No idea what the OS has to do with this problem, but I've been unpacking mods on my own. Managers only make sense if I'm using many more mods like I was / am using in Fallout3, so I don't see why I would use a manager.

Either one of these, jetEngineBig.cfg and turboFanSize2 in text search only pop up once in GameData. Both in the Squad part folder.

Are you sure this sort of thing can only be happening due to multiple partfiles in GameData?

No. It happened to me a couple times and that was always the reason, but I can't say it can't happen for other reasons.

Did you solve the problem within the tech tree by searching for these parts in GameData and deleting them? That simple?
It has quite a few parts that show up as dublicates, but interestingly, not all stock parts. Only some.

For example, there is a node, landing gears or something like that, with a few things. Starting just fine, no dublicates, but the landing gear itself included in that pack then is dublicated in the list - several thousand times (I didn't actually bother counting). It ended on another few parts that had no dublicates, too if I'm not mistaken.

What about the module manager? This one applies patches to 109 parts each time the game starts. Wherever those patches come from, what if this causes the tree to think hey, that's a NEW part that I didn't have listed in that list before, and it puts them in the list, ignoring all existing and orphaned links/listings to the same part?

I usually didn't search for the part - the duplication was a result of me updating a mod without deleting the old version, and as the new version reshuffled parts to other directories I'd end up with dupes. In one occasion I made a copy of a Squad part to tinker with it later, but didn't bother even changing the name "for now" and ended up with duplicate that would spawn over and over.

ModuleManager is capable of doing this with a stupid patch, but I have no good idea how to go looking for it.

Okay, I just started a new career save [I don't want to do everything again, just for testing] and this is what it looks like there:

HIkOvSc.png

Everything fine here! So it indeed -is- something with the save file.

Where is that stuff stored, exactly?

*Edit: Wait. These parts shouldn't even be in there to begin with, should they! I can't see them in this new savegame here, while they definitely are in that same group in my borked tech tree...!

Furthermore, this is only happening to 4 tech nodes as of now. Those are, tier...

3: Aviation - Mk1 Cockpit
3: Flight Control - Mk1 Inline Cockpit
4: Aerodynamics - Wheesley Jet Engine (Which belongs in 3, Aviation!) & Engine Nacelle
4: Landing - LY-10 Small Landing Gear

Check every node of the new save tree, check it hasn't migrated to elsewhere on the tree.

I already did. Nothing there. Then again, I don't have anything unlocked there either, but quitting and starting the game back up didn't change anything in that tree. So it doesn't happen there, while it does, or, did, in my real savegame. How do I clean that out...?

Because I'm not starting all over again because of a stupid bug in the tech tree. I just want to fix it...

Update: It's happening in nodes of tier...

3: Aviation - Mk1 Cockpit
3: Flight Control - Mk1 Inline Cockpit
4: Aerodynamics - Wheesley Jet Engine (Which belongs in 3: Aviation!) & Engine Nacelle
4: Landing - LY-10 Small Landing Gear

Sum ain't right there. It's all unlocked nodes though, and doesn't actually do anything besides showing up in the tech tree nodes.
I'd still prefer to fix it...
