sevenperforce
From everything I've seen, S1 sep always comes before LES jettison. Glad the crew is ok.
Xd the great
Is there a LOCV of the soyuz, like the space shuttle? Gah, hole on soyuz and now this. I am starting to think that romocos is training crew for martian missions.

What I mean is does the soyuz have a blackout period that will lead to LOCV? Some danger zone during launch that makes abort impossible... CatastrophicFailure
Things to wake up to in the middle of the night. When did the incident actually happen? After booster sep, yes, but before or after Tower jettison? Or do we even know at this point? Glad Crew are safe.

sh1pman
The primary and backup crews of the Soyuz MS-10 sent to Baikonur from Zhezkazgan
tater
End of (orbital) life on Soyuz is apparently related to the propellants. It can stay up longer, but then descent is ballistic. Wonder if they can send up an uncrewed Soyuz?

Escape tower jettisons just prior to booster separation. The rest of the payload shroud jettisons some time later.

tater
NSF has a quote from a Russian saying they can accelerate the next crew mission to November. While the Russians might well do that, I doubt NASA is cool with it. The crew aboard ISS could then stay (at least the American), as there would be room on Soyuz if the November (or December if it slips for investigation) flight has 2 cosmonauts. Then 2 could return if needed on the docked Soyuz, and 3 on the new one. Alternately, they could launch Soyuz to ISS uncrewed.

Watch the MS-09 launch, tower jettison was called out at the same time as this launch, just prior to booster sep. ETA- tower jettison was brought forward from the Soyuz TM series to T+115s in order to increase payload. So did the escape tower pull the capsule away, or not? This is what's confusing me right now. It would appear that it did not, that the crew made an abort using engines like Soyuz 18-a or maybe with the third stage, but that seems odd given that right now they're saying a booster failed to separate properly and hit the core stage... Hm, indeed. T+114 LES, T+117 Stage 1. So, they have changed this.
tater
Watching it, it seemed like it was wobbling before the incident. Engine issue on one side booster, perhaps residual thrust caused the impact with the core?
