What's interesting to me is that AMZN is a public company... how can you justify to shareholders that you are spending 2X what they should on launches? AMZN doesn't own a rocket company, so they can't say they don't want to support a competing delivery service.

I'm curious.  Can you come up with *any* cases of stockholders rejecting a CEO's attempt to either line his pockets or even spend lots of company money for his own ego's sake?  For a company that was otherwise making money and not as an excuse to fire an underperforming CEO?  A high profile CEO simply isn't questioned on Wall Street (while making money).  Elon might get a lot of flack for much of his questionable publicity, but he never gets any from Tesla shareholders (Spacex is private, he doesn't really have to answer to anyone).

Odd. it's using the composite 2-pc fairing instead of the titan-4 derived ones.

VSE, RC, AND LD/MD have declared DIV go for launch.

T- 3:25-20 SECOND STAGE LOX SECURED AT FLIGHT LEVEL

T-2:50 FTS INTERNAL

T-2:35 CBC LOX AT FLIGHT PRESSURE/ FLIGHT LEVEL

T-2:30 VEHICLE ORDINANCE ARMED

T-2:00 VEHICLE INTERNAL, HYD PRESS 4000

T-1:55 LAUNCH SEQUENCER STARTED

T-1:45 CBC LH2 AT FLIGHT PRESSURE/ FLIGHT LEVEL

T-1:40 FCS LAUNCH ENABLED

T-1:28 FTS ARMED

T-1:20 OCU ARMED/FCS COUNT STARTED

           SP/GS/RANGE/TEAM GO!

T-1:00 ENGINE START BOX GO

           ROCC STATUS CHECK

T-45 LAUNCH ENABLED/ GE MAIN POWER OFF

T-40 SECOND STAGE LH2 SECURED AT FLIGHT LEVEL

think SMART reuse is a great choice for ULA to pursue in the future. ULA really doesn't need to focus on recoverability as they focus on DOD and NASA missions and those people could really care less about launch costs and more about launch vehicle capabilities. And ULA really is much better at the specific orbits necessary for interplanetary probes and spy satellites. On the other hand SpaceX focuses in the private sector where recoverability brings their launch costs down so it is easier for private companies to launch their satellites.

Moved from the SpaceX thread. The link below is ULA "showing their work" on SMART reuse.

Thanks again that is pretty neat. I wonder if they’ll buy their own chinooks or get some military thing.

Edit: never mind they don’t need to buy or use Air Force chinooks, they are Boeing’s son.

To me at least, it looked like it was coming from the nozzle extension. IIRC, the C1-1 is just the A4-2N with some 3d printed parts replacing some of the machined ones. Doesn't seem to have effected anything as far as the telemetry goes, and there didn't seem to be any extra RCS firing to compensate either.
