"Insufficient resource abundance - need at least 2.5%"

Recommended Posts

I just had this message pop up while landing this lander/rover on Dres.  I've never seen in before, and no idea what it's referring to.  I've got 2 dozen mods or so.  Is this stock?  From a mod?  What does it all mean?!

Landed fine.  Engines didn't quit on me or anything.

Was there a double rainbow in the sky?

Seriously though: your picture doesn't load for me, so I have no other clue to go on, but I'm guessing you have a small drill on your rover? Maybe you activated it by accident in the heat of the moment of landing. That's the only stock part that I know that cares about the >2.5% resource abundance - it won't work otherwise.

Yeah that could be it.  There are two drills on it, although I'm not sure how they could have activated.  Neither deployed and they aren't attached to any action groups...

Here's a direct link to the picture if you wanted to still check it out. http://u.cubeupload.com/Geonovast/screenshot506.png

Ok that one worked. I can see one of the drills on the side of the rover. It doesn't seem to be extended, and if you are sure you did not activate it, I don't know why it should give that message, at least in stock. Maybe one of your mods tries to be clever and automate the drilling?

Either way, the message is harmless: it basically just warns that unless you move to an area with a higher resource abundance, the drill won't be giving you anything.

It means that there is not enough ore to mine normally, in the area where you have landed.

Just change the spot of landing and try again.

^^This^^

It also looks like a rover, if im right, you can drive to another spot on Dres and mine there.

But why would it show up with the drills retracted and before I touched down?  I think I was still a few km above the surface when it showed up.

I suppose it really doesn't matter, I'm just curious.

So, I believe that message is what you get, normally, when you try to drill with the mini-drills where the ore concentration is below 2.5%-- since they have a minimum ore requirement, unlike the big drills, which work as long as the concentration is non-zero.  (I say "I believe" because I never, ever, ever use the mini-drills.  Ever.)

That said:  you shouldn't be seeing it if you didn't try to activate the drills.  Nor should you be seeing it if you're not touching the ground, even if you do try to activate them, because then the error message should be "have to be landed" or something like that, I would expect.

The only non-bug explanation that occurs to me is:  Maybe you accidentally put the drills' "start drilling" action in the wrong action group (like "Gear", for example)?  Then when you tried to extend your landing gear (or whatever) it also tried to activate the drills, and couldn't, and made that error message.

If that's not it, then all I can think of is that either you've run into an actual bug in the stock game, or perhaps some sort of bug in one of your mods, but at that point I have no clue.

Anyway, just a thought.

(Also, moving to "Tech Support" since this is more of a "why does my game do something weird" thing than a general-talk-about-KSP thing.)
