FalconFluff
On a Jool mission I noticed some odd behaviour with the sun, as I timewarped through the system it should be moving across my cvew in a constant, smooth motion, right? Well it seems to 'update' its position every x distance traveled. Is this a bug, or by design, and is there a mod to improve this?
Helmetman
Quote On a Jool mission Expand That quote On a Jool mission... means the first mission to Jool ever where you experienced this? Or it's your first mission to Jool ever? I never had this. Do you run any mods? If true to the above then, which ones? Quote every x distance travelled. Expand "x" implying there is a reproducible 'distance' step whereby the sun moves each time it does. Is that distance quantifiable to a specific number or a number within a range of numbers that is always similar? (like same distance travelled or same traversed timesteps) so, what can you tell us about that? This helps us know what we can tell you. You sure it's just the Sun? Have you attempted to track Jool or any other planet/body for similar behaviour? Does this only happen at high timewarp? Maybe the sun Sun moves said way when simply panning the camera, no mind timewarping. I'm not sure because I don't know whether you tried Did you? The Aziz
What version? There was something about sun movement in 1.3 development that players did not like, so I believe it was fixed in 1.3.1.
Whisky Tango Foxtrot
Nah, the sun's still screwy in 1.3.1. Apparently fixing another bug introduced this one. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.
Delay
On Kerbin at least, the sun's motion is fine in 1.3.1, I've had no issues there. However, atmospheric effects are still stuttering.
Vanamonde
This is a result of work done on making shadows better. As I understand it, they are now working on making the sun's motion smoother, too.
stibbons
There's details about the problem with flickering shadows in Unity 5, and how fixing them introduced the stepped motion of the sun, in this devblog, linked from the first page. The changes discussed in that post were done for version 1.3. The release notes for 1.3.1 include Quote Fix Sun (stepping) movement in Flight whilst retaining sun shadows fix. Expand So in theory it's all good now. If you're still seeing stepping in an unmodded 1.3.1 install, I'd strongly suggest adding a bug to the issue tracker about it, SQUAD seem motivated to fix that one for good.
