KSP 1.3.0 versus 1.3.1

The rest of life took me away from KSP for several months, but I'm getting back into it.

KSP 1.3.1 is released.  I hear it has serious issues.  So I'm interested in details.  Should I stay with KSP 1.3.0 for now or switch to 1.3.1?

I have not run into any major problems. When it was first released, a couple of my installed mods broke, but that happens with every update, and even those were fixed in like a day. It seems to me they might have changed how planet coordinates are calculated. When I first used MecJeb to land, it was off by 50 Km! Not 50 meters, not 500 miters, 50 Km! But that has a  fix too. It seems like I have heard some grumbling about rovers, but I have not noticed any problems with my designs.

In short, make sure you have the latest version of your favorite mods, and I think you will be fine with 1.3.1. But I will wait until others weigh in.

I have heard of some bug when you reload a ship on a surface makes it jump and destroy its self. I have definitely had a problem with rovers. I had one as soon as it loaded would shoot several hundred feet into the air. The only possible way to use it was to put launch claps on it to get it through the physics easing. Also had several rovers jump when I switched to them blowing out all their tires and rendering them useless. This happened to me over and over. In fact I just decided to scrap the whole mission I was planning out of frustration.

The game now loads faster. I'm assuming due to localization being ironed out.

Never mind @Gordon Fecyk posted while I was typing. The exact issues I am talking about.

IMHO 1.3.1 has less serious issues than 1.3.  Of course, it introduced its own new ones, but on the balance it's rather better.  So my advice is, get it.

The problems introduced in 1.3.1 are actually old problems resurrected.  I'm talking about landed things, especially anything with suspensions, bouncing on physics load.  This as usually been a fact of life throughout KSP's existence.  Some folks just got spoiled for a while in the recent past when this wasn't so bad as before.  Now IMHO it's back to what passes for normal in KSP.  So if you could deal with it before, you can deal with it now.  In the meantime, enjoy increased stability of the game as a whole.

On macOS Sierra 10.12.6 I have problems starting the program 1.3.1. I need to access to "show package content" and go directly to the executable there, in the folder macOS. Every single time, and I can not make a shortcut in the folder.

Is more stable? Yes

Have less bugs? Yes

But I did not change yet to it.

Radiators don't work as well anymore. A lot of my mining bases that were working fine in 1.3.0 are overheating and losing efficiency in 1.3.1.

That happens to me too. It's KSPs catchup mechanics. I've lost drills because of it.

Try it and see. See if the latest round of new bugs are more annoying than the last.
I thought landing gear/wheels were fixed some time ago, this is getting ridiculous.

Let me get this straight: The exploding fairings have been traded in for catapult landing-gear? Again? And this is an improvement?
Do wheels still explodify stuff if you touch them? At least that one is mildly amusing...

Seriously, anyone know when we're going to see a release that doesn't include new bugs? Like an actual, honest to Dog, release quality release? With fewer bugs than the last?
Is the codebase really so horrific that any change upsets the spaghetti monster? It sure seems like it from here... Come to think of it, that'd probably explain the appalling performance too.

It think I'll go back to playing a released game, this thing is obviously still in early access. Maybe 1.8 will be the real-deal. Wait, make that 1.8.4, it'll need at least 3 hotfixes for obvious regressions that got past QA, 4 to be sure.

Why not do both? Copy your 1.3.0 install somewhere else (if you are using steam) or just download 1.3.1 separately.

Then you can test it with your save, if it works for you, great, if not, well you haven't lost anything.

I don't run on my Steam copy of KSP but always back it up and then run on another modded copy;  so I still have 1.2.2., 1.3.0, and now 1.3.1.  I'm not that invested in 1.3.0 that it wouldn't be hard for me to shift to 1.3.1.  What I don't want to do is spend a lot of time staying back in 1.3.0 if things are good enough in 1.3.1.  From what I'm reading here, I think they are.  We have to find workarounds for bugs in most versions of KSP.  I think if our crucial mods have good versions out for the latest KSP, it's more a question of when to make the shift, right now or in a short amount of time.

Glad I took the time to read this. I was thinking of moving up to 1.3.1, but now I've decided to keep on keeping on with 1.2.2.

I had an earlier post back in August about whether to stick with 1.2.2 or move on to 1.3.0.  You may want to check that out and with the info from it and this topic make your decision.

Had my fair share of adventure with a miner on Gilly. Without boring you with the details, I think 1.3.1 requires all surface installations and landed vessels to be re-seated (sort of speak) and the best way I can think of doing it without explosions, is to temporarily override gravity to something between 3.0 and 5.0g, while visiting each one of them for the first time, after the update. After that, things seem to return to normal -at least this seems to be the case in my save so far.
