Update 1.4 is coming soon. Brings an engine change to the newer Unity 2017, amongst other things.

Expansion/DLC "Making History" is also just around the corner. Adds cold war era parts, missions, and a mission editor.

Check out the KSP Weekly if you want to follow along with development. All the popular mods are updated and available as per usual.

lol I think they were "coming soon" before I took a break!

I'll delve into the weeklies, see what the hippy-hap is.

Cheers for the response :)

Yea, I agree...'coming soon' could still be months away. They usually start releasing beta test builds what...a month before launch or so? We haven't seen that yet.

1.3.1 is stable and most still supported mods are up to date. The only killer NEW issue I'm aware of (I'm sure you all point out those I'm overlooking :D ) involves asteroid seed changing on every reload - so the shape of the asteroid keeps changing which likely destroys or buries anything attached to it. There are some legacy issues with landing legs and wheels that have improved over time, but can still be a headache...there's no indication that will be fixed in 1.4 since it's been around since at least 1.0.

Other than that, dive in and start playing!

Gotta say, I didt know about the asteroid thing and am disappointed to hear that such a major bug  has been recently(ish) introduced.

This is why I end up taking such extended breaks, and why I was asking about updates - every update seems to come with new bugs :(

And I'll eat my hat if a new version of unity doesnt bring even more.

KSP is, naturally, Great. With a capital "G" like in Alexander the Great or Peter the Great. Its that good. Im definitely Pro-KSP, Pro-Squad.

But I feel like I've been waiting for 5 years for it to be fixed.

Its looking like my break will be extended past the next update to a point after all the hotfixes have dropped, then I'll probably post this exact same thread again.

I posted a workaround for the Asteroid issue in the thread below...it seems a bit daunting, but once I did it the first time it was really easy to repeat and it's proven to be a stable fix after many hours of play, reloads etc.

It happens on every reload???  Oh, noooo... I was going to try upgrading from 1.3, but not yet... not until this one is officially fixed. I use way too many asteroids to take the risk.

Haha noice, I've easily reaped over 1000hours so far though :)

I'd like to reap a few without significant bugs, I have too many excellent bug-free games in my library. I've spent too many hours prepping for vast interplanetary missions only to have something bork in deep space or wherever and having to scrub the whole outing.

Anyhoo, I didnt want to gripe about bugs. Im just sad its still an issue. I get that 5 years isnt an eternity in games development, but its a while, and NEW bugs? Not good. The whole point of having asteroids is to interact with them physically. How did that build make it out of the door? Am I overstating that?

Glad to see everything is still in full-swing though! Im not going anywhere

Without bugs, I would not hesitate to place KSP next to HalfLife2 as one of the best games of all-time.

yes, but it's easy enough to fix...luckily this is a bug with a clear workaround.

Yeah... but I'm still really worried... I don't know if you've read Emiko Station, but I have several super important asteroids that have to stay exactly the way they are now, and I'm afraid I'd probably screw things up... I can wait until 1.4.

If you haven't loaded it in 1.3.1, you should be able to look in the persistence file and see for yourself. If the Seed value is a 7 digit number it shouldn't randomly change. If it's expressed using scientific notation, then I'd avoid it.

Definitely still recommend launching from a backup save, but it's worth checking.

Also I'm not sure that this will get fixed in 1.4.  Based on what someone from Squad wrote in the linked thread, the change is intentional and necessary, so I'm guessing Squad isn't intending to revert it.

To intentionally change an asteroid shape and size every time it's loaded? With all due respect, that can't be right... it spells eventual doom for every asteroid base ever built.

@SQUAD... can anyone there shed some light whether this is a bug or intentional, please?

I'll check first. And I always make back-ups of everything before I attempt an update, so I'll have a safe version one way or the other.

The bug was an unintended consequence of recent changes to allow foreign languages, which ended up affecting the way the random seed for asteroids was read.

Yes, is a bug.

OK, then hopefully it'll get squashed.

I'm sorry if I'm being a pain about this everyone, but Emiko Station itself is built into an asteroid, and it's no big secret I'm planning a massive rebuild really soon... so, needless to say, I'm a little paranoid about my asteroids when it comes to any bugs...

If you're worried, don't upgrade.  It's still practically the same game.

Honestly, the only reason I'm thinking about it is one of my absolute favorite mods, @Angel-125's DSEV, just had a big update with new parts, but it's for 1.3.1... and I'm pretty sure it won't function properly under 1.3

If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have brought up the update, and asteroid issue, at all, actually.

@Just Jim  My comment was based on what Squelch (a member of Squad staff) wrote

I'm assuming he was talking about some asteroids changing seeds, when first loaded in 1.3.1, and not about them changing seed every load, but I'm not sure.  From that thread the appropriate bug is https://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/16087 .

OK, thanks!... now I just have to dig through my notebook and find my old password... lol...

Do read the forum thread that quote can from

as there is some good info in that as well.  Worst case, you can probably generate a number of seeds (or hyper edit your way to a number of asteroids to find one with a decent seed), until you can find a seed that will reproduce an acceptable substitute for your existing asteroids.

Oh wow... this will not work at all...

Emiko Asteroid is a monster class-E and 8 digit seed, and there is no way I can substitute another asteroid, not after this long... no way at all.

Crap... I'm not going to be able to update unless this is changed.

Well we haven't seen Emiko Asteroid in what 18 months or more now?  Last time I recall you mentioning Emiko Station, you wanted to rebuild the station.  So just find another seed for a monster E-class asteroid, and build your new station, and we will probably not be able to tell the asteroids apart.
