Yeah, when talking about computers with my father, I was surprised to find out that my computer has more ram than he had storage.

I remember my first job out of the Navy when I had to make a personal presentation to the controller to justify buying a 1GB hard drive for my computer. Because a good rule of thumb for hard drive prices at that point was about $1 per MB.

But, yeah, my gaming PC is running an Athlon 860K, so poll fail.

Man... I remember my first computer. It uses Windows 98, back then it was the most sophisticated OS out there. And my first game? DOOM. It's kinda interesting to realize how far and fast technology has progressed

First family computer ran Win 98... SE!.  Oh yeah, I was the cool kid.  We had it upgraded to 96 MB of RAM from the 64 it came with.  8 GB HD.  Came with a monitor, and a printer.  IIRC It was like $2500, and my parents were thrilled at the deal.  I actually used to rub our 56K v92 modem in the face of one of those better-than-everyone twits at school.

I used to have a computer that used one of these.

Took up TWO 5.25" drive bays.  40 MB of storage.

Man, you make me remember my previous laptop. It was A vintage piece of technology, with bulky 5 cm thickness, 500MB hard drive, and still using small joystick for cursor aiming (no, there's no USB port on it). The price? When it was bought, the original price is around 200$, I got it from secondhand shop with a price of... 5$ (this is during crysis game era). Then I own it for 2 years before it was sold for... 2$. The game that I played on that laptop after all those years? Megaman X. The only thing that remains from it is the hard drive, which I removed because I knew that laptop won't last long anyway after it's sold again, so I keep it's main hard drive as a memento and well as the reminder of memories we held together

You haven't lived until you've tried to pull data off of a cheap cassette tape.

I actually have the first computer our family had.  It's a Sinclair ZX-81, built from a mail-order kit.  It hooked up to a tape player for storage.

I suppose technically our first computer would have been our Brother word processor.  This thing was the coolest thing ever when we got it.  Really all we did with it as kids was draw pictures using underscores, vertical bars, hyphens, and the inverted space (where every pixel in the character is used, dunno its actual name)
