Use for engineers

Engineers get higher level would be great to getting space craft repaired/upgraded

. Similar to scientists and pilots that can do more as they get higher skills

This way an engineer can fix parts that are on orbiting space equipment or on other surfaces.

They could add upgraded parts to existing stations or remote bases.

Fully upgraded Engineers should get KIS/KAS. Now that would be a thing.

 

I agree with your idea, would be nice if they get some additional ability indeed.

In the stock game, the only use for engineers is boosting the efficiency of ISRUs and repairing wheels. If engineers were able to repair more parts or even use KIS/KAS it'd be great.

Don't forget repacking parachutes and folding unfold-only solar panels.

I don't really get what you want. The only parts that can break and get fixed are wheels, and engineers already do that. Anything else simply explodes. 

Furthermore, afaik there are no upgrades for anything (well except KSC buildings) so what would they actually upgrade? 

It seems like half of the functionalities you mentioned are provided by mods, and your suggestions would work only if such mods were present.

What about solar panels that break due to being hit? Like the hubble they had to replace all sorts of items over the period of the item in space.

People put up satellites and debris. Maybe Engineers can be leveled up to be able to put on crabbing units, solar panels, aerials or other science items once the science levels have been elevated.

Yeah. Put KIS in stock. Makes the game much more fun. And especially very very kerbal once you start abusing the ability to "replace some parts" and start assembling rockets off-world from these.

My junkyard at Minmus, left after assembling a big mining base. That thing closest to camera - assembled from a couple old transfer stages on site, fully flightworthy, and used to rescue kerbals from Minmus orbit.

Recently I refueled a transfer stage and attached a spare antenna and a solar panel to it, and launched it to Moho from Minmus. It almost made Moho orbit but unfortunately fell short. I wonder what other spare stuff I have lying around...
