Rotating docked objects

Please make it possible to rotate objects connected via docking ports relative to each other, allowing docking ports them to act as bearings? I want this ability because it will make building electric prop engines easier. And I swear I remember being able to do this in the pre-1.0 version of the game. I've heard there is a way to achieve what I want using the Klaw, but I haven't succeeded in making that work yet. I have an idea of how to do it, but my idea have a habit of not working.

Not only that, it would help correct any misalignment that may have occurred on docking and may hinder certain parts' performance (such as additional docking ports facing the same direction being obstructed by parts sticking out or KAS fuel lines or struts not connecting due to their anchor points being twisted apart too far).

 

And don't give me any "Well just redock properly and it's done" type of comment, coz sometimes it takes me 3 tries to get everything lined up perfectly, even if it's just for clean looks.

Won't help the OP much, as I don't think it can go that fast, but for correcting alignment, you can use:

I really don't think this will ever be stock, though.

There have been working arms in the past, and I believe there are some in progress.  Check the WIP mod threads for more info.

None that I can recall.  I did have a working Canadarm back in, oh 0.24 or so, but I haven't played with them for a while.   Look around, theres some work going on with hinges and rotation and stuff, specifically for arms there.

Even if Squad doesn't want to deliberately design for ad hoc props, allowing rotation of docking ports to be toggled without detaching said docking ports is pretty much a win for all. Spacestation builders can multi-dock modules more easily. Rotating habitats can rotate while still firmly attached to the rest of the craft. Mobile TEL systems can more easily be built to transport rockets by truck and then turn them upright, VTOLs can more easily be built that use rotating engines. Cargo bay doors can be opened and closed more easily...

 

It even allows giant rovers with custom wheels!
