Loading Time

It takes  almost 20 mins for my KSP  to load. Is this normal?

If you have a lot of mods and/or a slow HDD, then yes. If you can afford it, I would recommend investing in an SSD - it certainly sped things up for me

Well, could you be more specific, ie what kind of hard drive does it have?

idk? It is a dell inspiron 3000 i think

If you're getting 20min loading times with stock KSP, then you probably have an HDD. I don't know if it's possible to upgrade the hard drive on that laptop, but you could probably google it.

If you can, then swapping out the HDD for an SSD is one of the most cost-efficient performance improvements you can get. I would highly recommend it.

20 min loading time for stock isn't normal for any form of disk (except for floppies).

Do you have any form of VPN or unused network interfaces? (like firewire)

That's been known to slow down loading to a crawl.

Your main problem wasn't necessarily that you were on a HDD, it was that you were on an old HDD.

There are quite a few things that can affect the loading time.  Some full specs of the computer would help.  Dell Inspiron 3000 and "a decent computer" doesn't tell us anything.  If you can't find the specs yourself, we should be able to get everything from the Service Tag, which is on a sticker somewhere on the computer.

 

Did KSP ever load normally?  Did this happen with the recent update?

it was ok in 1.7:about 5 mins, but now its 15-20 mins. also I keep getting warnings "part does not exist" etc.

Sounds like you have a bad install.  If you're on Steam, do a file validation.  Otherwise, completely remove the KSP folder (make a copy of your saves first, if you want to keep them), and then re-install.
