FAR disables itself on incompatible versions. So unless you're using a version that has the CompatibilityChecker code removed entirely, it doesn't change anything besides the control surfaces, which are, of course, broken.

Ferram, please take as much time as you need. You have an awesome mod that has given me an incredible amount of enjoyment. I prefer a realistic game so your mod and Nathan's deadly reentry are my 2 core mods that I install first. Take your time. This is just a thank you for a great mod.

DRE is not originally Nathan's, and IMO it's not really *realistic*

I stand corrected, r4mons and ialdabaoth's deadly reentry picked up by Nathan and now starwasher. But this is FAR's thread so I won't debate in it. Anyway, I stand by my statement that both of the mods add fun to me the game, and a step toward realism.

Edit: Didn't see your post Nathan till I posted. I know it doesn't use real hypersonic shock physics as that would be a bit complicated over all of the shapes, it still explodes me on reentry if I'm not careful :)

They *really* need to get FAR into stock. This is like my #1 cannot-live-without-it mod, since I'm a RW pilot and real aerodynamics are, shockingly, very important to me :)

Since they used a lot of work from modmakers in this release I am hopeful they will use Ferram's work directly, or maybe a derivative. I think I remember Ferram saying that he would like more low level control a while ago and Squad would be the one to provide it. Just imagine what would be possible.

If Ferram would just stick to his wonderful mod I would not mind either, though :) The mod is pretty great anyway.

FAR will likely never be integrated into stock, because it's supposed to be realistic, which detracts from Squad's idea of fun over realism. NEAR, on the other hand, I could see being integrated.

The one thing that REALLY needs to happen in my opinion is a fix for the aerodynamic drag, so that nosecones have a purpose other than cosmetics.

Funny thing is that it can be actually harder to fly in NEAR than in FAR...

I don't want to see people trowing knives at each other about Stock x FAR x NEAR around here again, we better just enjoy the stock game while we wait for FAR to update.

Stock aerodynamics WILL be overhauled, we still don't know how it's going to be, but I don't really think anyone knows for sure yet.

I'm perfectly happy to install FAR. I just hope that Ferram realizes how excruciatingly important (and good!) his mod is to many of us. I'd like to see the stock game use FAR as an *option* at least.. in difficulty settings, you pick "real aerodynamics" and it enables an integrated version of FAR, or you can turn it off if you want "fun over realism" ... in any event, I remember it wasn't very long after 0.25 dropped that FAR support was released for it, so here's hoping the wait won't be too long :)

What Squad could do, though, is adding the option "Enable realistic aerodynamics" in the gameplay menu, satisfying both ends of the playerbase.

You know, you're building up your gamedata, writing up some configs of your own, getting everything to play nicely together, and then they break your game by releasing a new version that takes away your heart :(

Installing 0.90 right now, I don't really know what I am gonna do though.... I think I haven't flyed a Rocket since .20 or so.... I guess it's an occasion to start carreer all over again!

I never once thought I'd have to live through the stock atmosphere again...

but I guess it's worth it with 0.90!

I want to play 0.90, but I've decided to wait until a few of my favorite mods have been updated. I can't seriously play the game without FAR or NEAR, it would feel so incomplete. I know nothing about aerodynamics or any of this fancy rocket building stuff in real life, but I need this mod before I can even begin to consider launching a rocket in KSP. Oh Ferram, what have you done to me!

BUT I CANNOT, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

I'm not complaining at the modder, just venting. Take your time, make it excellent. I've been laying off KSP for a while, dug up a loved game from older days on a Steam sale (UPLINK, if anyone has ever played). Will wait till my favourite mods are updated.

Save game is already discontinued, anyway. Finished off whatever tech I could buy on the first R&D building tier, until I realized it was 3am and, y'know, I have a job in the morning.

Every minute was worth it, tho :cool:

Same here. FAR, DRE and ProcFairings are standard for me... Might also try out KIDS this time.

With the almost religious support and development Ferram has shown it is hard to imagine he does not, though I would hate to speak on his behalf.

The question wasn't whether FAR had been updated, it was whether FAR worked in .90. Some mods work or mostly-work without needing any changes.

But in the case of FAR, ferram's given the answer.

Ie whether or not the current version of FAR could work with .90 or not is moot, because it's coded to refuse to work. It's an approach I dislike, but well, it's ferram's mod and it's him that ends up with the bug reports so it's his prerogative.
