Aircraft Pitches Up After Takeoff

Recommended Posts

After my aircraft takes off, I suddenly pitch up sharply and crash. If I am going fast enough, I can take off, but the moment I pitch up enough it pitches up sharply again. My Aerodynamic overlay and my Center of Mass overlay are inside each other. My center of thrust is directly behind me. I have included pictures. help plz

Moved to Gameplay Questions.

It'd help if we could see the COM and COL bubbles.  You say they are inside of each other, but if the COL is slightly ahead, the plane will defer to Australian rules aviation  (ie flip over and fly backwards).

For non high performance planes (ie non dog fighting), I like to have the COL just slightly behind, and hopefully touching the COM

You've got your center of mass almost exactly on your center of lift, so the plane will be very twitchy.  Try sliding the wings back a bit so the center of mass is a slight bit forward. That should help.  Also, sometimes the control surfaces move further than you need. Don't forget you can change the amount of movement by right clicking on the flaps and adjusting that.

Even without pictures my first thought was: "Jepp, CoM too far behind." Ask me how I know...

But you've already moved the CoM bubble a bit forward. I too found that planes in KSP seem to fly a bit more stable that way - CoM & CoL stacked on each other will tend to a twitchy behavior.

Another tip: always construct your plane without fuel! Most users have problems during the flight if fuel depletes and the CoM takes a huge shift. I construct my planes dry and then add the fuel - and watch CoM & CoL very carefully. &)
