Science reports question - number of reports in a Biome

Recommended Posts

I am looking at the Mun reports. When I cursor over a couple of the Biomes I see...

Midlands 9 reports - 126 hidden

Northeast basin 10 reports - 125 hidden

I assume since both of those add up to 135 possible reports that this means there are a possible 135 reports in each Biome.

For Northeast basin I have the following reports...

  1. Atmospheric Pressure Scan from the Mun's Northeast Basin
  2. Crew report from the Mun's Northeast Basin
  3. EVA report from space just above the Mun's Northeast Basin
  4. EVA Report from the Mun's Northeast Basin
  5. Gravity Scan from the Mun's Northeast Basin
  6. Materials Study from the Mun's Northeast Basin
  7. Mystery Goo Observation from the Mun's Northeast Basin
  8. Seismic Scan from the Mun's Northeast Basin
  9. Surface sample from the Mun's Northeast Basin
  10. Temperature Scan from the Mun's Northeast Basin

That is the 10 reports and as far as I can tell that is all of the science I have equipment to run. What are the other 125 hidden reports? Or am I misunderstanding what the hidden reports mean?

Also I know the deplorable surface science from Breaking Ground generates and transmits data but to they ever create a "report" for the Biome?

Thanks in advance.

Bruce

That is why I am confused. I have unlocked the entire Tech Tree except 3 of the 1000 point groups and the only science I see in those is the M4435 Narrow band scanner. Is there something outside of the tech tree I have to unlock that I am not aware of?

Tthe only Mods I have are Environmental Visual Enhancements, Kerbal Alarm Clock, and Docking Port Alignment Indicator. I am trying to go stock for as much as I can so I have no non-stock parts, Just KSP v1.9.1, Breaking Ground and Making History.

I fired up KSP and had a rummage, and I think the answer is this:

When you select a specific biome, it will display only the science experiments from that biome and hide all the other experiments you have done for that specific body. For the Mun, you must have completed 135 experiments in total, so when you click Northeast Basin it will show you the 10 reports for experiments from the Northeast Basin, and hide the other 125 experiments from all the other biomes and experiments that don't have a biome like recovering a vessel or doing a mystery goo experiment while in orbit.

I just checked my stock game and it says for "Shores" on Kerbin 7 reports, 21 hidden. That tells me there are 28 total reports for Shores. There really should be 28 for every biome, then.

I can't think of any explanation that does not involve mods adding science to your game.

If you open your KSP.log from the root KSP folder, you should have somewhere in the first few hundred lines a line that reads "Folders and files in GameData:"

A stock game with no DLC or mods will have after that "Stock folder: Squad" and nothing else before the next line, "************************************************************************"

A heavily modded game could have hundreds of lines.

Could you paste what you have there?

What a ridiculously stupid UI decision.

Who EVER would care that there are science values for other biomes hidden?

I just tested this as well and agree though, that's exactly what the game is doing.

My recommendation: Ignore the values. They're meaningless except to be confusing.

Well, I interpret these values as "If you click here then so many more reports will be displayed."

Perhaps they're hiding because of the insult.

On a serious note, I agree with He Who Was Once 5thHorseman:  that's an unconscionably silly UI decision.  I think I'll throw some feedback into the bugtracker about it.

Edited to say that 25319 is now on the tracker.
