New player, I have version 1.10.1, I have some experience building ships, but I rely on alt+f12 until I can build something proper. love playing around with kal-1000 clocked engines.

What kinds of things do you like to build? If they're very large and that's why you're using ALT-F12, then I could probably recommend some mods.

To avoid feeling like I'm cheating, I have a "simulation" sandbox save where I use stuff like F12 to teleport craft to places for testing, then when I feel I have a design ready for actual use I copy it over to my "real" campaign save and fly the mission.  Or you can keep playing your way. It's just a suggestion.

I do basically the same thing. Something I learned recently that saved me a lot of time was that if you exit to the main menu you can open up your saves folder and copy craft across without having to restart the game.

I suggest using TweakScale too! It scales (almost) everything! (excluding mod parts), making your Kerbal rocketry easier.
