KSP gets stuck when loading

Recommended Posts

KSP stops loading and gets stuck, but the "witty loading hints" and images keep going, but the loading bar at the bottom of the screen stops. See above screenshot for more information. Does anyone know what the Squad/Parts/@thumbs/adapterSmallMiniShort_icon0 means, and why it is stopping? Just before this, I was working on my newest crane, the Kiebherr KTM 1060-3.1, and when I tried to save the latest changes, the save, open, new, and launch buttons greyed out. I just closed KSP, hoping the changes were saved, restarted the computer, and when I tried to relaunch KSP again, this happened. I tried to open KSP 3 times, and it happened all 3 times. That video I was making about the KTM 1060 for my YouTube channel might have to wait!

That’s modulemanager that’s causing that. The errors messages are from MM; basically the problem patches (20) have errors, usually spaces in the text or incorrect language use.

if you go to (path to your KSP folder)/Kerbal Space Program/Logs/ModuleManager, the logs there will say which patches have thrown the errors. However it appears to be a tweakscale workaround set that’s the culprit (along with 4 test patches).

If you remove/fix those patches it should load up (or get closer to doing so).

Ok, I will try that. It is just that those errors have been there since I got Tweakscale working after I messed it up (click here to see that thread. @Lisiashelped me out with that one), but has worked fine until now. I forgot to mention that the leave SPH button was also greyed out.

I don't know if it matters, but I have Modular launchpads, both DLCs, Kerbal Foundries, Space Center Vehicles, and Tweakscale.

Bad patching is always a pain in the SAS, even when it appears to work at first,

Try diagnosing the thing as we did last time: do a full copy of the installment, then run the copy eliminating one AddOn at time to see what changes. As soon as the problems vanishes, you found something - but not necessarily the culprit.

Publish the KSP.log too, sometimes it's something easy to spot on an eye glance.

Um, at the risk of sounding like an idiot and/or ungrateful for your help, I don't really know what that means. :( I'm sorry, but I don't know a lot about programming, how games actually work on a computer, or computers in general (I know a bit about computers, and I really want to learn more), so I may need some slightly "dumbed down" instructions. Again, sorry for being an idiot. I do really appreciate your help though, @Lisiasand @FruitGoose!

@Lisias is definitely the guy to help (he maintains tweakscale so will know the ins and outs!)

However, do you play through steam? I’m wondering if it’s updated itself to 1.11.2 in the background. Reading other thread you linked it seems like it was working (on 1.11.1) and has just suddenly stopped? Assuming you haven’t added or removed anything since, the update thing is the only cause I can think of. If so you may be able to roll back to the previous version in steam which will fix temporarily.

Yes , I play KSP through steam. I went into steam either yesterday or the day before, just to check my KSP version. I noticed that it was trying to download  a KSP update. I had KSP open at the time so the download progress bar wasn't moving.

I just opened Steam now, and I saw this. It was the same thing I saw yesterday (I have KSP open right now, still doing nothing. I am going to close it out after I post this). Should I do the update and see if KSP works again?Screenshot6.png

I think we have a probable cause. Steam started to update things, and ended up removing some old ones.

Modding a Steam maintained game is pretty tricky ( I tried myself in the past, decided it doesn't worth the trouble), I would recommend making a copy of the game and modding only the copy.

Uh, do you mean using S.A.V.E? Should I download the update, and if something goes wrong use my most recent S.A.V.E.D KSP backup? (I did it about a day or two ago, I think) Also, I have 8 gigabytes of storage left on this computer, will that make a difference?

I FIXED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I updated KSP, started it, and it loaded just fine! When it was loading, it said that Tweakscale might not work with KSP 1.11.2, but everything seems to be working fine, so I will just leave that alone for now. When KSP finished loading, the first thing I did was S.A.V.E it, just in case anything happens.

S.A.V.E. is an add'on to automate backups of savegames. Highly recommended. :)

This will not protect your installment, but will keep backup copies of your savegames that can be used to restore them if by some mishap the KSP instillment gets broken to the point to corrupt the current savegames.

In time... you are using Windows, right? Did you know that you can set a flag on the KSP folder to tell Windows to keep everything compressed on the file system for you? KSP just do heavy file I/O on loading, and 99% of the time it's reading files - and having the files compressed by Windows for you will make loading KSP faster, and will also save a lot of space on your disk drive.

In a way or another, since you are using Steam, the easiest way to locate the KSP files is to use the "Browse Local files" option:

Qy0SzYo.png

The Windows Explorer will open on the place the KSP is installed.

From there, you can copy it to somewhere else for backup purposes, or to play from outside the Steam - what I think it's better.

From there, follow this tutorial.

You can also completely screw up everything too, so pay attention on any Dialog Box asking you for confirming something. ;)
