AmateurAstronaut1969
I’m actually getting used to making lots of fast paced freedom missions. Like if my computer isn’t playing up (a problem that will be almost entirely mitigated when I get my new computer In a few weeks) I can get a mission done in a hour and a half, like in the last two hours, I’ve already got tomorrow’s mission ready. I just need to stop getting distracted lmao Edited September 24, 2021 by AmateurAstronaut1969
funnelton
On 9/11/2021 at 7:10 PM, AmateurAstronaut1969 said: US Laboratory, Discovery May 1989 The US Laboratory, Informally called ‘Discovery’ is the main laboratory for space station Freedom, however, Unlike the similar module of Destiny from our timeline, it isn’t the functional centre of the Station/the US Segment. Discovery is much different as all the life support hardware that would have been located on its 23 internal racks, the hardware is inside its core; Challenger. Instead, Discovery functions as a research centre. It has the space for lots of internal research, with most of its experiments being constantly switched in and out, being delivered on crew or cargo flights, and returning in the Apollo capsules or in an ESA Minotaur. It also has external pallets for mounting experiments to, of which many were launched up with Discovery. Discovery is launched on a Saturn M02, using its own OMS thrusters to rendezvous with Freedom (Side note - That was a mistake on my part, I assumed that the modules were delivered by AARDV tugs’s however, only the Truss segments are), and will dock to Unity’s Starboard port. Launch Complex 39-B... Late Afternoon: ...3...2...1...Release, Release- Liftoff! “The vehicle is passing through the point of maximum aerodynamic pressure” “Approaching Core Burnout” “We have confirmed Separation of the S-IVB from the S-IF first stage...and we have J-2 Ignition” “The J-2 has had a nominal ignition and is burning at 100% thrust” “Approaching burnout” “Nominal Orbit Insertion” “SLA Panel Jettison” “Discovery separation...OMS thrusters Confirmed to be functioning Nominally” Now In orbit, Discovery completes a series of small burns to raise its orbit, coast closer to Freedom, and change its orbit to rendezvous. 2 days later... Discovery inches closer to Freedom, 100m out, it parks, and performs the flyaround to target the Starboard port of Unity. Now lined up with Unity, Discovery begins its approach. Discovery slows down to less than 1m/s for the docking, and its Soft capture ring deploys. Freedom sits as a Monolith in Orbit above the Earth... Next Time - S1 Truss segment A little teaser maybe? Thanks for reading everyone, see you soon! where did you get those greebley things on discovery?

Well, it’s mostly all from BDB - the science palettes are from the Spacelab parts, and most of the experiments on them are either from the Apollo SIM bay parts, Or the Skylab experiments. There are also Canadarm Latches in either side of it Also, (For everyone now), I forgot to add, I want to experiment with videos for the one after tomorrow’s mission. I need to learn how to take videos, but I’ve tested around with imgur and it can upload them and post them to the forums

Kuiper_Belt
If there's room on any upcoming missions Kuiper Kerman would love to go to Freedom! He's got some old silica tiles he'd like to test in space from a now long defunct proposed reusable space plane . Loving how the series is going and cant wait to see more! AmateurAstronaut1969
Node 2, Harmony. January 1990 Relations across the Atlantic had been once again improving, and the European Space Agency was invited into the Freedom program to design and build a new European Laboratory for Freedom, the Columbus module . In return for providing the launch service for Columbus and delivering it to Freedom, the ESA were asked to finance the construction of two Multinode hub modules. NASA were to build the modules themselves, funded by the ESA - a joint venture Named Unity and Harmony, they would be multipurpose modules, with general equipment such as crew quarters, a galley and a few science racks aswell as some external science palettes. Each were fitted with 4 radial docking ports and two Axial ports for Apollo / AARDV docking and Future expansions to the station. Unity was launched earlier in the construction of Freedom, just a month after Challenger. But now a year and a half later, it’s Harmony’s time to launch. Umbilical retraction, T-25s T-9...8-Ignition sequence start-6... Launch Commit, Launch Commit, Liftoff! Tower cleared! I upgraded the S-IF core over the weekend using tweakscaled BDB Titan LDC parts - I think this looks much better than what I’m currently using! AmateurAstronaut1969
Hey everyone, here’s a bit of an update on Freedom Since Sunday, I’ve been busy, and My computer hasn’t been too cooperative either. I haven’t had the time to launch the next Mission to Freedom, and when I did, KSP auto updated and corrupted the save. Luckily I had a backup. I’m also getting my new computer very soon, so that will be a delay to Freedom. Also, I’ve started learning Blender with the end goal of possibly/maybe starting KSP modding with another person. All of this is to say that Freedom will be delayed and it might be a small while until the next launch, but I’m not quitting. I’m committed to this and I’m gonna try and get the missions done when I can and as quick as possible. Thanks Edited September 29, 2021 by AmateurAstronaut1969

Note: I’ll probably get a proper flag to mockup the Shuttle tiles properly. Right now they are at 100% opacity so they don’t make the very opaque patch when they cross over, but it stands out a bit Also Double Note: I’ll explain in the post, but they are mounted on the SM in order to test regality during launch and the mission, and then their performance during reentry. AmateurAstronaut1969
Freedom Expedition 5 should be coming tomorrow. AmateurAstronaut1969
Freedom Expedition 5 January 1990: Less than a week after the Successful docking of Harmony, Freedom Expedition 5 sits on the pad and is cleared for launch the next day It’s now been over a year since Challenger was launched in November 1988, and the 4 previous crews have worn in the station well. However, the events of the crew’s mission will be a bit underwhelming, as no major expansions to the Station will take place over their six month trip to Freedom The Crew consists of... - Commander Kuiper Kerman - Pilot Calvin Kerman - Mission Specialist Misguided Kerman - Mission Specialist Jack Kerman - ESA Mission Specialist Heinrich Kerman ...who will ride to Freedom abort their Block IV CSM, Nova. However, their mission isn’t as underwhelming as it seems, as the Service module of Nova holds one of the crew’s main mission objectives; to test out the physical behaviour of some old heat tile design from a long abandoned reusable spaceplane program... Attached to the aft side of Nova’s SM is three clusters of the “High-temperature reusable surface insulation tiles” (HRSI tiles) made from LI-900 silica, designed specifically for this abandoned project, but also a few Reenforced Carbon-Carbon tiles, along with the thermal monitoring systems for all three clusters. Leading the in-orbit research of these tiles are Commander Kuiper Kerman and Mission Specialist Heinrich Kerman. Their job throughout the mission is to: A- Test how the tiles preformed on launch, seeing how well they hold by going on an EVA soon after reaching Freedom to monitor the state of the tiles B- Test them in multiple conditions such as being directly next to the Spacecrafts Reaction Control System during repeated short bursts, or one long burn. C- Monitor the state of the tiles during reentry and landing via communications with (What’s left of) the service module. Launch Phase Late January 1990, Mid Morning. T-5:30:00, the crew begins to suit up in their Launch and Entry Suits. T-3:00:00, The crew board Nova and are seated in the capsule. T-00:30:00, Fuelling continues, Comms checks with mission control in Houston T-00:00:27, S-IF fuelling arm Retraction T-00:00:11...10...9...Ignition sequence start ...3...2...1...release, release! Liftoff! Tower Cleared! Rolling to flight Azimuth...Pitch program commence “Hey only 5 tiles have fallen off so far!” ”Nova, this is Houston, how have 5 already fallen off?” “Eh they probably didn’t use the right brand of glue; these things never hold” Pitch Program progressing nominally “Nova, Houston, you are halfway to burnout, Over” ”She sure is a wild ride!” “Begin the G-Limiting program” ”Copy that, F-1A throttling is commencing” J-2S Chilldown has started T-20 seconds until cutout Engine cutoff “Nova, Houston, we have Successful Stage Separation” J-S2 Ignition! LES is clear! “Huh, I guess that glue wasn’t as bad as we thought” J-2S has nominal performance...Abort point Delta has been passed, moving to abort to Orbit 2 minutes of burn time remaining. Prepare for Cutoff Nominal Orbital Insertion Spacecraft systems are go SLA separation S-IVB approach Successful docking, Nova, you are go for Extraction Docking phase Nova spends the next two days coating closer to Freedom... Nova preforms it’s Phasing burns Nova Approaching Freedom at 600m away 400m 200m, Nova deploys it’s soft capture ring and targets the forward port on Harmony Nova is now moving at less than a m/s towards Harmony Soft Capture confirmed Successful Hard capture to Harmony! Thanks for reading - The return of Expedition 3 will come sometime tomorrow because I’m tired and have to wake up in 5 hours

AmateurAstronaut1969
Expedition 3’s Return to Earth A few Days after the docking of Nova, the crew of Expedition 3 prepare to board their CSM, Pilgrim, and return to Earth. Undocking Confirmed The Crew of Pilgrim now coast In Orbit for a couple of days. To lower their orbit away from Freedom, they preform a few Phasing burns. After the coast, the crew prepare to ditch the mission module before they deorbit. Mission Module Separation Pilgrim Preforming it’s deorbit burn The Crew are strapped to their chairs and in their launch and entry suits, this one’s gonna be a wild ride! Plasma builds up on the blunt bottom of the CM, the crew begin to experience a communications blackout “Pilgrim, this is Houston, do you read me?” “Houston, Pilgrim, we copy you loud and clear!” Prepare for Drogue deployment Drogues Drawn Prepare for Main parachute deployment We have successful deployment of the mains Brace for Touchdown- We have Touchdown Welcome home Pilgrim!
