The Strangness Of ASMR Videos

Honestly the only ones I ever watch are massage ones. Specifically anything with Steffi massaging from Mass Massage.

Practically puts me to sleep.

These I do not find strange.

Yet I find the ones strange where people whisper talk really close to the camera.

I have seen it and literally felt embarrassed myself AND for the person doing it.

Obviously the content creator won't mind as they are getting paid, but I find it creepy.

Like I am of the mind that hey... what's up with the whispers? And yes... I see a pretty female face. But can I stare at her whispering and crinkling paper for ten minutes or more?

LOL no.

I find the concept fascinating. Like how my TV, that only has the speakers on the soundbar available to it, can make it sound like that explosion came from off to my left. that kind of thing is really interesting to me.

But yeah I can't watch someone doing foley in my ears for more than about 30 seconds before I'm finding another form of entertainment.

In general I think ASMR is a strong STRONG placebo effect rather than anything genuinely real in terms of actual genuine physiological reactions. That said some will disagree with me. But lets get nuanced with my view!

1. Videos like the ones made by John Plant (iirc his name correctly) of Primitive Technology or say bigstackD casting (a metal casting channel) where you have no voice overs or verbal comments being made and let the ambient noises of the background or activity being filmed do all the speaking are great. Both on youtube

2. The mic in the mouth or a micron away with the whispering or other noises like comb stroking are nauseating and as the op said embarrassing. They are gross. Full stop.

so thats my opinion. Lets see what the user below me feels/thinks!

1. Best use in screamers.

2. Use a pop-filter to make your audiorecords sound less ASMR.

3. Artistic eating and chewing in movies are a kind of ASMR therapy, too.

3.5. The sound of beer gulping and chips cracking.

4. A bubble wrap. The FinGet cubes.

For once, you and I are on the same page. I don't get it. And it's kinda creepy. And they can tell me a thousand times that it's not about you-know-what, but I'm not buying it.

Hahaha.... yeah I know. The way I see it, it is far easier for many to pretend the pretty female face is their mate than actually try finding one IRL.

But personally I just find it far too creepy.

Occasionally you get funny ones though. I remember one about a Mexican girlfriend asmr waking up her cheating boyfriend.

Video is VERY short.... since your POV is waking up with a very serious, bushy headed girlfriend staring at you with no makeup on, followed by a pillow shoved onto your POV until the video ends.
