Warnings built into editor | Science QoL

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Looking forward to KSP2!

I would like to see warnings built into the editor. My main example is that if I accidentally block a hatch and the Kerbal can't EVA. I've run into this before where I did the whole launch successfully, and 30-45 minutes in realized I can't EVA. :) I am sure there are other warnings that can be displayed, but this is one I won't forget!

Science in KSP1 wasn't my favorite thing. I used mods to pop up when Science was available. It wasn't my favorite work around, but at some point trying to find my Science instrument, pinning it, etc (before hotkeys) became a hassle. Maybe have a Science dashboard of a type in the cockpit, but the module needs to be installed on the craft to use it.

There were warnings in the first game, but they were in the engineering report that nobody uses. Would be better if there was a panel where you could see the warnings or got a notification before launch.

I use the engineer's report quite a lot, thank you very much. Anyway, if nobody uses it, why would they use a different thing with the same functionality?

You're assuming people don't use the engineer's report because they make the conscious decision to not use it, which is just incorrect.

People don't use it because it was aptly placed in an obscure corner of the UI, probably by an underpaid intern at Squad that was given the feature and told to pick somewhere to shove it.

Presumably so that the same functionality is more visible. For the blocked EVA example, a pop up warning that appears right over the part in the VAB would be more obvious than a notification in a closed panel. Alternatively, the devs could automatically open the engineering report and highlight the warning as soon as it appears.

They couldn't include an alarm for everything that might go wrong. The practice I follow, and advise everyone else to follow, is to test every stage you add in flight before adding the next stage. Catches no end of hazards.

Agree 100%.

This is where an 'R&D simulation' mode would help.

I use a separate Sandbox save to my 'Main game' (also Sandbox) for this, but it is a bit of hassle at times.
