I suspect that they were also worried about a pitchfork mob showing up if they tried to change the Kerbol system. Probably a legitimate concern.

I can only assume the same as well.  It seems the old-timers are divided and the new players probably don't know/care, so there was no win/win situation for Intercept here.

I've heard some of the old guard vehemtly defending the need to have the original system for a number of reasons.  Whether there was more than emotion behind the carefully-worded veneer is irrelevant - these folks felt very strongly about maintaining the old planets, and that matters.  From a purely business sense, it's also probably an easier job for Intercept to keep a lid on the disappointment from one group then relatively fervent anger from another.

Sadly, I feel that this is a very astute assessment.

I knew from day -1 that I wouldn’t be leaving KSP1, I have tried KSP2 but will wait until it gets more mature, I’ll keep an eye on KSP2 with every patch, but will remain in KSP1 until at least science and colonies get added (and after I get a hardware upgrade), then I’ll probably move to KSP2.

I played KSP2 as much as I could on the first week of launch. When I returned to KSP1, it was incredible! Being able to actually build things that work makes you appreciate how well KSP runs, even after all these years and my countless stapled-on mods.

I still boot up KSP2 for its procedural wings. You just can't build the same variety of aircraft in KSP1 as you can in KSP2. That and the colour customization. And the sound effects. And the built-in kerbal chatterer. And the screenshot potential. And the-

Nope. I played a science mode game a few months ago and was thoroughly unimpressed with KSP1 after all this time. The UI is ugly and scattered, the gameplay outside of the core build/fly/repeat stuff is boring and poorly thought-out (IMO KSP2 is miles better in the build/fly/repeat game even with the bugs because the game actually looks like it belongs in this decade), and you have to use mods to make KSP1 not bland. Going back to that old crusty interface is the last thing I want to do. I'm enjoying KSP2 and am looking forward to see where they take it, and if it disappears tomorrow I'll have gotten my money's worth.

 Bro…..

This is exactly how I feel as well. I've been avoiding spoilers, and even most screenshots, cuz I don't wanna spoil any secrets. Exploring and finding new things in a sandbox style setting doesn't really appeal to me. I'd like to experience all these things in a proper playthrough.  I intend to do the same as you; keep checking in with each update and wait 'til things get better (which I believe they will eventually).

I'm kind of glad I saw one small spoiler, because I would not have realised there was even stuff out there to discover, if that makes sense? But yeah, definitely avoiding that stuff now - fortunately most people seem to be good at tagging threads as spoilers or not! Really do want to wait before exploring so I can experience things 'properly'.
