Quite Happy With the Progress of KSP2 Thus Far; Very Excited for It’s Future

Well, it's been about 108 days since I took the plunge and signed up for Early Access KSP2.  I thought I'd write this up because I noticed I've now surpassed the number of hours I put into KSP1 in KSP2 on Steam. KSP1: 553 KSP2: 557. Now this isn't everything. I actually also own KSP1 (and all it's DLC) on GOG, and I may have played more hours of KSP1 on that copy.  But, I don't think I ever accumulated hours played this quickly on KSP1.

I'm really excited about what's on the road-map. It very much aligns with what I'm hoping to see in the game. And it's definitely still KSP.  They haven't gone and dumbed down the simulation at all. I'm convinced It's actually more sophisticated now.

Yeah, the bugs are real, and yeah some are pretty bad.  But, I actually don't find them too difficult to work around.  Considering they made it very clear that this is Early Access, I feel have nothing to complain about.

This might seem odd, but that's something I was looking forward to.  Being able to see the game in a very early state, and watch it transform into a complete product.  I've enjoyed helping out on the forums in squashing bugs when I can.  That's why I've refrained from installing any mods so far.  I was expecting bugs.  I kinda miss the Kraken KSC.

This is something that I feel I missed out on with KSP1.  I picked it up in July of 2016, which means I missed out on the early development of the first one.

This is actually a big part of why I'm as happy with KSP2 right now as I am.  It seems to me that a defining feature of KSP1 was how involved the community was in shaping that game.  It seems to me that there's no way to maintain that level of community involvement without opening up access to the game early in it's development despite bugs.  And it's been really cool to see how they've been working to capture people's feedback on the forums.  I think they're doing a fantastic job.

I've seen some pretty serious levels of negativity on the forums.  I know some people are angry.  But, I do actually see something positive there as well.  Passion.  The people who play KSP love it.  And I love it too.

I'm convinced things will only get better.

I started playing KSP1 in 2013, and IMO those early years were my favorite. I'm not sure how much of it was that they were the early years of the game, or the early years of me playing the game, but I probably played 10x more in those first 3 years than I have all the years since.

So I can totally understand this :)

I can't wait for the science update to drop so I can dive in again! I crave a progression mode! I never cared much for sandbox in KSP1 and it's not doing it for me in KSP2 either, as much fun as it is to build planes (which work SO much better now) :joy:

Agreed.

The EA is very playable.  The bugs can be worked around and are temporary.  The wobbly rockets aren’t a problem if you don’t build Kraken lures.  In other words, solid conservative designs fly fine - wobbly rockets are a skill issue that can be overcome in other words.  It looks great and will get art passes.  The performance is fine on current hardware.  And the rewrite, once it gets through the EA/debugging process, is going to be a great foundation for the rest of the roadmap.

And the roadmap is what I’m excited for.  KSP never did colonies properly, the ISRU implementation was simplistic, the science/tech tree system rudimentary and imperfect, and after 5,000-plus hours in the Kerbol system, I’m really looking forwards to interstellar.

Less than a week to go before the next update!

I think the only thing stopping me from playing KSP2 is the lack of any career/science campaign. I constantly find that I spend more time on career than on any sandbox mode because i find it more fun to "fly to the mun because i need that science to unlock cool parts" than "go to the mun for fun". I can't wait for the science update as well!:)
