Feeling threatened..

I just had this message pop up

It was from unity analytics... It sounds like they want to collect information from me and if I don't give it to them I am somehow going to be limited while playing KSP which [Snip] me the hell off, I never had to agree to this in the beginning and now I am being told....

"You  may choose to opt out of data collection. Please note that this will result in a non personalized game experience...."

Unity provided the gaming engine to you guys to develop your game in, what I play on, when I play it, how I choose to play it, what I spend on it and what equipment I run of it are absolutely none of unities damned business and I object strongly to these draconian measures which seem to indicate that if I don't agree to data collection I will be missing out on something..

Unity has become to big for it's boots and they need to have their combined asses handed to them....

Not devs... I also read recently what they are talking about with regards to charging you for installs - and it SUCKS. I think Microsoft should start charging them for their ongoing use of C#

lol! what does this even mean? :D

don't let yourself be intimidated. those analytics always twist the legal wording to make it sound more ominous to try and trick you into accepting. but really. i have no idea what kind of "personalization" they could implement, but it can't be important. we played for decades with games that didn't collect your data and worked perfectly regardless. just ignore it

99% of the time "personalization" or "personalize your experience" is just corporation-speak for "we want to sell your data to advertisers and vomit targeted ads in your face" - and if my experience with Ublock Origin has taught me anything, those ads will make everything 3x slower. So yeah, opt out of that data collection.

(I don't think KSP will ever have ads in it, but they'll probably appear elsewhere. Seeing a "watch this short video to revert to quicksave" prompt would be nightmarish lol)

One thing that was puzzling me for some time is how the infamous PD Launcher was shoved down our throats (or up the counter part).

The things it could do for us were bluntly ignored, providing useless services instead - this don't look as something a developer would do, we know that we need to give the user something back if we need to convince them to use something new.

Thinking a bit more, and considering what you had said, PD Launcher appears to be something conceived by an ads company - it's they job to force you to something in order to allow you do get what you want.

You know, I'm considering that PD Launcher will be an Advertising Vehicle in the near future...

If it's just shoving some banners down the esophagus while loading I don't really care. The problem of course, is the tracking. Whenever news sites whine that their business is not sustainable with me running tracking blockers my thoughts are always "I don't mind the ads and I do not block them. I do block trackers, and sadly the ads you try to serve come with it. But that's a 'you' problem, I can't fix that."

Well, I do when the thing is forced on me after I had paid for an ads free product.
