I don't know about the route but those are some cool rivers (that's a whole lot of RTGS)

Thx. The one on the right was built to fit in a Mk3 bay, and is one of the worst driving rovers I've ever built. Potatus2 is part of my ongoing Jool V attempt, since I'm visiting every biome on Tylo, might as well do a full circumnavigation (only like 50% more driving than biomes, so I'll kill two birds with one potatus.

It has all those RTGs on for a reason - when cruising, the rover starts to recharge, extending range without charging.

Is this a good Tylo route? (in black, red was bits i chopped off)

Tylo is really quite flat apart from the crater rims and I think almost any route will do - and you've already decided you want to see the craters (as did I). Elcano isn't all pressing forwards and waiting, to put it mildly, but quite a chunk of Tylo is...

Well, I'm doing it during a Jool V, so hitting all the major craters is needed for science.

Hopefully this goes better than any driving I've done on Eve - used RoveMax and LEV wheels - did not go well....

Hello,

I'm doing my second Elcano (this one is around Kerbin.)

Is it okay if I post a timelapse on my youtube channel for proof, instead of pictures? I would still show the map view and plant flags.

That would be perfectly fine - it just has to be enough to prove you went, and a timelapse more than does that.

(I see the Minmus above, will get to it when I have time, but thanks).

Do you mean you still have to review my Minmus one? (If I’m not mistaken you already did)

Also, given kerbin's lack of land, is this an acceptable route?

No, @TheKspEngineer had minmus above and I meant that; sorry for the confusion.

I think probably not - it's basically zipping around the North Pole. The total distance should be at least comparable to a route the long way around. As far as I know, everyone has had to design some kind of amphibious vehicle for Kerbin - easy in KSP!

Fair enough. Shouldn’t be too hard, right. . . ?

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally came back to this, Duna Elcano completed!

Faster than my Mun run by like 30 minutes lol, final time was 13 hours 20 minutes. Started off driving at like 35m/s but was cruising at like 50-55m/s by the end of the run. I'll have a timelapse of the run up hopefully soon!

Right, I've started my Tylo Elcano, and almost immediately I've discovered that the rover can powerslide at 60m/s (didn't get an image, was too focused on keeping it upright). Either that or it crashes horribly.

No idea how long this is going to take, want to keep the rover at 40 but one attempt ended after flipping at 86m/s downhill.

That's an odd way round - visiting anomalies?

Yep. Started in Grissom, did a quick detour to Galileio, drove to Tycho. Usual stuff. Then took a route straight north, as there was a green monolith there and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit a TMA with Dave Kerman.

I'll be heading due east to the Cave, then driving back to Grissom.
