Is it just me or does mechjeb have trouble balancing Kethane Tanks? I've noticed both empty and full tanks with just docking ports on them+TUG (vehicle) cause mechjeb to struggle aligning the nose with a manuver node. Anyone else noticed this? Mechjeb seems to work fine without the tanks, as soon as they get added, it slows down the craft turning. Thanks - Paddy.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who misses the old days when the kethane scan results were a square map instead of a magical hexagon projection floating over the planet...

That integrated into a RPM display would really make my day. (Probably not going to happen, though. :()

The only thing I remember about that map is that when I saw it, I said "pfft. Not worth it." and didn't install Kethane :)

Going back and looking at the craft tells me that your drills are to low.... There has for some time now been problems with the drills being placed to high or to low on the craft.

Too low? What height are they supposed to be?

Intended. Pretty sure it says this right in the OP, which nobody reads.

It doesn't. It isn't mentioned in the wiki or the faq either.

And your answer is conflicts with the answer I got to the same question I posed two days ago.

Nowhere does it say that scanning doesn't work unless the ship is the active ship, except lost somewhere in 455 pages of posts, and the responses are always the same. It's in the <insert non-existent place here>.

Now, I have a question FOR THE MOD AUTHOR/MAINTAINER

If this is intended, what's the purpose? What function does it serve NOT having the scanner work unless the ship is active?

If it's not intended and is a limitation of Unity, can't it be worked around abstractly? (For instance, say it takes 10 days to do a full scan of the Mun. If 3 days pass, reveal 30% of the Kethane map)

At any rate, thank you for the wonderful mod. It's awesome.

Well, it's intended because there's no other way to go about it. It's a game limitation rather than a Majir-induced limitation. What I did was just reduce the scan time of the scanners to like 0.1 seconds or something really low (because there's no reason they shouldn't be able to scan at high warp speeds - that IS a Majir-induced limitation, but one easily worked around and I see it as more of a bug than anything), leave it on a slightly less-than polar inclined, slightly eccentric orbit at something like 100x warp, then go to bed. Wake up and boom - a usable kethane map.

Yeah... same could probably be said about the seeing the grid hovering over kerbin in the main menu though. Really wish that, at least was gone.

I don't mean it was ugly (I actually like the grid on the main menu). I mean it looked too hard to be worth it. I never tried, but the thought of comparing lat/long on a map to my ship's position while hopping from place to place did not appeal to me.

This may be outside the scope of what is intended, and brighter minds than myself may have suggested it already...

Most of the time when I am messing with Kethane, I want to do test drillings and use it in exploration.

I'd really like to see the option to go to each of the biomes and use the drill to further SCIENCE! by taking "core samples". In doing so, I think it keeps with the spirit of the mod as we're learning more about KSP Geology; this science can then be spent (as it already is) furthering the tree and getting parts. Right now, it feels like it doesn't contribute but for propulsion (as it the first intent, I know). But it could do more.

Don't take my comments as negative. I love the mod, and am still exploring the possibilities, I just sometimes (oftentimes) get in a science rut and feel there should be more ways to learn about SCIENCE! on Kerbin.

Thank you for reading this.

I fully support this. It supports the immersion value as well with having more science as Kethane mining activities increase.

quick question.

I have been using the kethan mod for a while and I thought I had a bug when my miner/processor seemed to stop working on the MUN. I landed, drilled ect and noticed that I stoppd mining kethane but after a exhaustive search I simply mined out all the kethan in that field.

So I might eventually mine all the kethane on a planet ( doubt it ) if that happens is there a way to look for more?

don't think I will need it but hey ya never know..

If you mine all the Kethane in a deposit, you have to move to a new deposit. If you mine all the Kethane on a planet, you have to move to a new planet.

There are ways to refresh the Kethane deposits, but they involve editing the persistent file and are a bit cheaty. Plus, there's a LOT of Kethane out there :)

Add the following to the .cfg of the radial drills, either directly, or future-proofed with Module Manager (if the latter, remove the first part (in brackets). If the former, remove the brackets). It'll give you the option to take surface samples though, not core samples. To do that, you'd need flavour text to refer to, and I'm no good at coming up with that. If you can come up with some though, I'll see if if I can make it work.

(@PART[kethane_radialDrill]:Final)

MODULE
{
name = ModuleScienceExperiment
experimentID = surfaceSample

experimentActionName = Take Core Sample
resetActionName = Discard Core Sample
reviewActionName = Review Data

useStaging = False
useActionGroups = True
hideUIwhenUnavailable = False
resettable = True
resettableOnEVA = True
rerunnable = True

xmitDataScalar = 0.3

collectActionName = Collect Data
dataIsCollectable = True
interactionRange = 2
}

That should work.. I'll test it myself first, hang on..

EDIT: Nope, doesn't work. I don't know then. Turns out I'm stupid, hooray! :D

Been awhile since I last used Kethane (since Kethane 0.4.3 to be precise). I'm not noticing any major changes aside from the map moving to the actual game map, and the hexes. Wondering what I've missedsince the last version I used....and, more importantly, whether I have to babysit my Kethane scanning ships like I used to. By babysit, Imean sit there with the ship scanning at whatever the max allowed timewarp is until the celestial body is completely scanned. I know that ScanSat doesn't require this, though I think it scans in a different way.

Yes, you do. Scanning requires electricity. Resource consumption only works for vessels that are actually loaded (rather than on rails). Hence, scanning can only be performed from vessels that are actually loaded, generally the currently active vessel. For further discussion, please see any randomly selected page of this thread.

Majiir: This is getting pretty ridiculous, can't we please get an edit to the OP briefly explaining this in huge green letters?

Check out http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/70325-0-23-Baha-Parts-for-Extraplanetary-Launchpads-v1-2-%283-2-14%29 . Includes a dedicated surface sample drill. If you want to put surface samples on the same drill you use for kethane, it's still an example of a working config.
