Kethane Pack 0.9.2 - New cinematic trailer! - 1.0 compatibility update

The operation of converters changed.

That's the five word version. Slightly longer: I don't remember the details, but I do remember Majiir talking about changing the converters to properly conserve mass and that certain things (eg, Xenon) would not stop production but rather bleed off into space if there is no storage.

Thank you once again, Taniwha. That explains a lot. Then, until official announcements, I will assume that yes, we will need two different converters in order do produce Monopropellants and Oxidizer. I guess I can deal with it.

Thank you, Taniwha. And for everyone else as well.

Everything seems to be working here, and maybe it was already working when I posted my latest one up above.

As a side note: Maybe I am just dumb have a big stupidity bar, or things have changed and I'm not crazy here. If the first one is the case, please apologise my stupidity.

If my weak (WEAK!) memory is correct, we used to have four buttons on the converters: Jet Fuel, Oxidizer, Rocket Fuel and Monopropellant. Now everything I see are the first two ones (jet fuel and oxidizer) on the medium converter, and the last two ones (rocket fuel and monopropellant) on the heavy converter.

Now, I spent some good ammount of science in a depth research which showed me that "Liquid fuel (is), sometimes called jet fuel". Then, I can assume those are the same and don't need different buttons for the same stuff. But what about the oxidizer and monopropellants?

So, if I'm correct, only Medium Converters are capable of converting Kethane into Oxidizer, while only Heavy Converters are capable of converting Kethane into Monopropellants? Or is there really a bug? I couldn't find anything on the items description or at the Kethane Wiki that told me this. If there is some info proving the contrary and I didn't see it, please, rub my nose into it. :)

P.S.: I'm expecting a 5-word answer.

Looking at the convertor config files, it seems like "Jet Fuel" and "Oxidizer" produce LiquidFuel and Oxidizer, respectively; "Rocket Fuel" produces both. There's something in there I don't recognize: all of them have another component with a * after them, which I assume is what it creates when there's no more room for the primary output - for Rocket Fuel that's XenonGas, while for the other two it's Monopropellant.

* means that the output is optional. Ie, the converters always produce XenonGas or Monopropellant, but lacking storage for either will not stop the production of the resources without the *. I use it for ScrapMetal in EL.

Very clarifying. So, summing up, every conversion also creates monopropellant, except for the "Rocket Fuel", which instead, also creates xenon gas.

And according to what Taniwha said above, if you have all your liquidfuel tanks full, you won't produce xenon gas. I'm up to find out if that's right.

I don't know if this will clarify anything or not but "RocketFuel" = LiquidFuel (aka "JetFuel") + Oxidizer. My guess is that when you select "RocketFuel" in the heavy converter you will get both LiquidFuel and Oxidizer (plus XenonGas). It's what the screen in the VAB says will happen. There's a limited space on the selection screen for the converters so I'm guessing those descriptions are brief for that reason.

FYI - You can move the liquidFuel from a "RocketFuel" tank into a "JetFuel" tank and the plane engines will work on it. They are the same in the game.

So, what are all these new resources my Kethane scanner can scan for, and what uses them? (Ore, Substrate, Minerals)

EDIT: I'm an idiot who doesn't read the documentation when installing Modular Kolonization System. >.>

Does Kethane work with 0.24.2? It says 0.24 (as in pre-0.24.2)

Not in it's bare state. The converters don't work but, pretty much everything else does. If you read the posts above, you will see that a temp workaround has been done with the mod makers blessing. He has been a little busy and unable to do an update but, will apparently be doing one when he can. Thanks goes out to Taniwha and Kowgan for keeping us up to date. And as always to the mod makers out there...Thanks guys for your work.

Oh good, I'm not the only one. Now, to find this fix...

I know this problem has probably been asked before but I couldn't find it with me keywords but is there a way, by either altering the configs or doing something in-game, to make the radial scanners on constantly or do I need to wait for the medium ones?

That will completely @#%& up every converting craft I have in use. May as well start a new game.

Seems that the scanners don't work as well in 0.24?

Trying to scan as normal, below 124km orbit with an active ship and nothing...

They will scan, but it won't update the hex-graphics or go beep as it did before. To get a view on how far you've gotten on your scan you need to toggle back and forth between "show kethane grid" or whatever it is called in the kethane control panel when in map mode. Or if you got mods that add more resources (MKS, KSPI or similar), in the kethane control panel, switch between resources it should display, and the grid updates.

The way it works now:

Medium Converters have an option for liquid fuel and another for oxidizer. MonoPropellant is also created as a subproduct.

Heavy Converters have an option for Rocket fuel (which creates Liquid fuel + Oxidizer at the same time and proportion) and another option for Monopropellant. The first one has a subproduct of Xenon Gas.

random word formatting for no apparent reason. :)
